A member of the crow family, the jay is a beautiful and colorful bird. Its very name comes from the Old Russian verb "to shine."
The bird can reach 34-40 cm in length and stand up to 15 cm tall. It typically weighs approximately 140-200 grams. Its wingspan slightly exceeds 50 cm.

There are slight variations in the bird's size depending on its habitat. The main differences are the presence or absence of a partially whitish collar at the base of the nape, variations in the nape shadow, and the underparts' color.
All about jackdawsThe rook is a member of the crow family. Its appearance and size resemble those of a crow, leading some people to confuse the two. However, the rook has some distinctive features: firstly, it is significantly slimmer, and secondly, an adult bird has a ring of bare, featherless skin around its beak. Juveniles lack this ring.
