The Turkmen Alabai is one of the most ancient breeds. The origins of this dog are closely linked to natural selection. Around six thousand years ago, the people who inhabited what is now Central Asia needed dogs to guard their livestock. For this purpose, they bred mastiffs, the ancestors of the Turkmen wolfhound.
