Even the most meticulous person can encounter bed bugs. They enter our homes on other people's clothes, crawl in from neighbors, or are brought in with new furniture or other purchases. These nasty insects cause a lot of trouble. People with sensitive skin, such as women and children, are especially vulnerable to bed bug bites.

Consequences of a bedbug bite
The bite itself is painless. Before inserting their proboscis into the skin, bedbugs inject a liquid that numbs the bite site. After feeding, the bug withdraws this organ, and the affected area begins to itch intensely. This causes pain and itching. Children react more negatively to bites. Their delicate skin may develop blisters and huge patches of redness that are difficult to get rid of.
Typically, bedbug bites are located in a single line at a distance of 2-4 centimeters from each other.
Scratching the affected area can introduce infection into the resulting wound, which usually leads to inflammation and complicates the healing process. If the bite is a single incident, a slight redness is nothing to worry about. However, if there are multiple bites within a short period of time, it is necessary to:
- take measures to treat the premises to get rid of insects;
- begin treating the affected areas of skin;
- If possible, avoid being in a room infested with bedbugs until the insects are completely destroyed.
Treatments for damaged skin areas
If you have mosquito bite repellents in your first aid kit, most of them will also work for bedbug bites. First, disinfect the affected area with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to prevent infection. Then, apply a trusted product to the skin.
Fenistil
The most well-known and proven of these products is Fenistil gel. Its action quickly eliminates all the consequences of a bite (itching, burning), minimizes inflammation, and reduces redness. The product has a pronounced antihistamine effect, reducing the risk of an allergic reaction. It should be gently rubbed into the affected areas of the body 3-4 times a day.

Psilo-balm
Psilo-Balm is an excellent remedy for all types of insect bites. It relieves not only itching, redness, and discomfort, but also allergic reactions following a bite. German quality and an affordable price have made this balm popular. It is recommended to use it three times a day for adults and children aged two and over.
Psilo-balm quickly relieves itching, reduces pain, hyperemia, reduces increased capillary permeability, tissue swelling, and causes local anesthesia.
Bepanthen
Bepanthen is available in the form of cream and ointment. These products have a very soft consistency and are not contraindicated even for infants. The main active ingredient of the product is dexpanthenol. It acts as an anti-inflammatory. To treat bites, apply the ointment no more than 3-4 times a day.

Rescuer
Rescuer Balm should be used immediately after a bite. It promotes rapid wound healing, reduces inflammation, and restores the skin. Rescuer Balm contains only natural ingredients, making it safe and reliable.
The rescuer relieves all symptoms of a bedbug bite.
Levomekol
Levomekol ointment is an inexpensive and effective medication that relieves inflammation and promotes the healing of open wounds. The antimicrobial and antibacterial properties of its components ensure rapid recovery. Apply the ointment generously, no more than once daily, using a bandage. Avoid overuse, as side effects (skin rashes) may occur.
The active components of Levomekol ointment have antibacterial and antiviral effects.
Panthenol
Panthenol is available in different forms. To treat insect bites, it is advisable to use a cream rather than an ointment or spray. It's absorbed more quickly, meaning the therapeutic effect is immediate: swelling, inflammation, and itching are reduced. The wound stops hurting, and the regeneration process begins. Apply to the affected area 1-2 times daily.
Panthenol is a product used to speed up the healing of wounds and burns on the skin.
Menovazin
Menovazin is a solution recommended for use if discomfort persists and becomes more severe. It contains novocaine, which helps effectively relieve pain. Menovazin should be applied to the wound 3-4 times daily.
Menovazin soothes itching and has an analgesic effect.
Recommendations for the use of medications
It's best not to use hormonal ointments and other strong medications without consulting a doctor. A bite from an insect like a bedbug won't cause as much harm as the unnecessary use of medication.
The use of Bepanthen and Panthenol for delicate and sensitive skin is more than justified. They contain dexpanthenol and its derivatives, commonly found in facial creams. Bepanten and Panthenol are recommended for use on areas where the skin requires gentle treatment.
If a person is prone to allergies, then, if necessary, they should take a tablet of Tavegil, Suprastin or another antihistamine.
Traditional methods of treatment
Folk remedies are often used to treat insect bites. Treating the bite site with soapy water is recommended to relieve itching. To disinfect the wound, you can wipe it with St. John's wort infusion, calendula tincture, or propolis. Aloe juice or a paste made from mashed fresh potatoes are also effective. In a pinch, you can use a baking soda solution, chopped fresh parsley, black or green tea, or plantain.

We used cedar oil to relieve itching and swelling in the area of the bedbug bite.
I had to buy Fenistil because my child had a rash. We didn't bother picking anything, just bought what the doctor recommended. The gel itself is clear, fairly thick, and has a very faint odor. Fenistil works great. The rash doesn't go away instantly, but the itching and swelling subside within just a couple of minutes. No side effects were observed.
This gel was the only thing that saved me from a terrible allergy. I have a terrible allergic reaction to any insect bites. I get these incredibly itchy bumps, and it gets to the point where my leg or arm would swell to twice its normal size... I tried everything, pills and lotions, but one day, when I went to the pharmacy (with a swollen leg), I asked the pharmacist for something for insect allergies, and she gave me Psilo-Balm. Bedbug bites are an unpleasant experience. Rumors abound that these insects carry dangerous diseases. However, cases of infection through bedbug bites have not been confirmed. Treating problem areas is essential, but there's no need to panic or overreact. Simply continue to regularly treat the area until the bedbug colony is completely eradicated.
