How to choose a cockroach trap or make one yourself

Cockroach infestations are undoubtedly one of the most annoying problems in modern housing. The worst part is that these harmful and dangerous insects don't roam alone—if you see one, you can be sure that within a short time, a horde of them will be infesting the premises. Therefore, immediate action is essential. Whether in an apartment or a country house, the solution must be effective and safe. Cockroach traps are effective in this regard; you just need to determine which type is best for your specific situation.

Types of commercial cockroach traps

The principle of a cockroach trap is roughly the same: it is a small box with holes, inside which there is bait to attract the insect.

Cockroach trap

Cockroaches, attracted by the smell of the bait, fall into the trap through special holes.

Traps differ in the type of impact they have on insects. In modern stores they are divided into four main groups: adhesive, electric, insecticidal (poisonous) and ultrasonic.

When choosing a product, it is worth paying attention to the service life: traps are divided into disposable and reusable.

Adhesives

Typically, this kit includes a cardboard box with adhesive tape and a bait tablet. Fold the box along the lines indicated in the instructions, then remove the protective film from the adhesive tape and place the bait tablet inside.

Prepared traps are placed in places where cockroaches are most likely to appear: near the trash can, next to the stove, under the sink, or in food cabinets.

Glue trap for cockroaches

The tablet in the trap has a scent that attracts cockroaches.

In one night, several dozen insects can be caught in such a trap.

The positive aspects of using glue traps include:

  • the absence of chemicals in the composition, such a trap is usually harmless to humans and animals;
  • Affordability makes glue traps one of the most cost-effective methods of cockroach control;
  • ease of use.

Cons:

  1. Disposable. A filled trap is not suitable for further use. The higher the infestation level in the room, the more frequently the traps need to be replaced.
  2. Inability to destroy pest eggs.
  3. Unsightly appearance. When disposing of the trap and its contents, it's best not to look inside: dead insects look unsightly.

If the disadvantages seem insignificant compared to the main priorities—safety and accessibility—then we can take a closer look at the most popular glue traps.

Argus

Ideal for use in environments where increased safety is a primary requirement. The Argus glue trap is odorless, does not irritate the skin, and is non-toxic (even accidental contact with food will not cause harm).

Argus Glue Trap

Argus traps are the safest for people and animals

The trap contains rubber, polyisobutylene, food bait, and mineral oils. This domestically produced trap retails for 20 rubles and up.

Depending on the configuration, the attractant may already be included in the adhesive layer, or an additional measure may be required to attract insects—such as leftover animal feed, a small amount of sugar, or flour crumbs.

When removing the protective tape from the adhesive layer of Argus, it is important to remember that once opened, the adhesive has a limited shelf life of three months.

Forsyth (Force site)

A slightly less safe product than Argus: it belongs to hazard class IV, meaning it's low-risk and doesn't require protective gloves. It's odorless, non-toxic, and inexpensive—starting at 45 rubles.

Force-sight glue trap

The Force-sight set is equipped with a special bait

The Force-sight kit includes a house-shaped blank, an insert with an adhesive base on rubber, and a tablet-shaped bait. Manufacturer: Russia, shelf life: 3 years.

When installing Force-Site traps, avoid getting the sticky layer on clothing and other fabrics—it is very difficult to wash off.

Eco-glue

The trap is manufactured in Korea and is classified as a minimally toxic product. However, it's important to note that the active ingredient—a rubber-based adhesive—contains an insecticide and rodenticide (a chemically toxic substance).

Eco-glue glue trap

The Eco-glue trap requires the use of protective equipment during installation

The kit includes house traps and several sheets with an adhesive backing. Additionally, kits are produced that include bait – tablets containing pheromones.

Eco-glue (second packaging option)

The multi-colored kits include a bait with attractive pheromones.

Eco-glue is typically sold in packages containing at least four sets of traps. Each package costs approximately 150 rubles.

It's best to wear protective gloves when handling Eco-Glue to prevent the active ingredient from coming into contact with your skin. If this does happen, remove the substance with solvent or vegetable oil, then rinse the skin with water.

Taiga

This type of trap is produced in China and Russia. Domestic manufacturer Greenfield LLC states that the product is completely harmless and does not irritate the skin. The precautions listed on the websites selling the product from the Chinese manufacturer mirror the recommendations for working with the toxic Eco-glue.

Taiga Glue Trap

For best results, the manufacturer recommends using several traps at the same time.

The cost of a package starts from 30 rubles in the retail network.

Block

Like all glue traps, Pregrada is designed for the mechanical destruction of insects. Made of thin cardboard, it is used at temperatures ranging from +5°C to +40°C.

Glue trap "Pregrada"

Pregrada traps can be installed even in contaminated areas.

Country of origin: Russia, active ingredient: glue. Remains effective even when exposed to dust or moisture. The retail price is about 75 rubles.

When using glue traps, remember not to combine them with aerosols. The aerosol's scent will overpower the bait and repel insects from the traps.

Electric

Another name is electronic. Most often they are metal boxes in which bait is placed. The kit sometimes includes a special brush for cleaning the device.

Electric cockroach trap

Despite the method of destroying insects, the trap operates silently

This type of trap works on electricity, killing cockroaches with an electric current. Inside the electronic trap there is a circuit that emits a discharge at certain intervals, thereby killing the insects attracted by the bait.

The positive aspects of using an electric trap include:

  1. Eco-friendly. This trap cannot have any harmful toxicological effects because it does not contain any chemicals.
  2. Reusability. To ensure the trap works long and efficiently, periodically clean out any insect debris with a special brush.
  3. Ease of use. Using electric cockroach traps requires no special skills or abilities.

The main disadvantages of the device:

  1. Fear of dampness. The trap is electrically powered—to prevent a short circuit, avoid placing it in damp areas.
  2. If there are no batteries, a power outlet is required.
  3. When using, it is necessary to observe safety precautions, keep away from children and pets.
  4. High cost.
  5. It only kills adult insects; the device is powerless against pest eggs.

GoGreen

The manufacturer, the German company ISOTRONIC, promises European quality and safety. In addition to the trap itself, the device comes with three batteries, a cable, and a network charger.

GoGreen Electric Trap

GoGreen traps have a discreet appearance

Unlike a glue trap, the GoGreen trap has a larger coverage area: approximately 40 square meters. The average cost of a set is approximately 4,500 rubles.

The manufacturer recommends using any food scraps from the table as bait.

EcoSniper Trap

The Chinese manufacturer has set a more affordable price for its product: starting at 2,400 rubles. The kit includes the exterminator, a power adapter, and a bait bag.

Electric trap EcoSniper

The EcoSniper trap does not have batteries.

The manufacturer promises energy-saving power consumption, and if the bait runs out before the last cockroach is cleared from the room, it recommends using food crumbs to attract the insects.

Insecticidal (poisonous)

Poison traps contain an insecticide that poisons not only the cockroaches tempted by the bait, but also their relatives. The operating principle of such traps is based on a delayed effect: the insect freely leaves the trap, carrying the poison with it to places where other individuals congregate.

Poisonous traps for cockroaches

Poison traps are usually made of lightweight plastic.

Poison traps have several openings to allow cockroaches to enter and exit without hindrance. These traps are typically produced in the shape of a small circle or square, with a Velcro fastener on the back.

The benefits of using insecticide traps:

  1. Mobility. These traps don't require power, are compact, and can be attached to any surface using Velcro.
  2. Affordable price.
  3. Relative durability – the traps remain effective for six months.
  4. Aesthetics. You can choose a trap in any color you like, even a laminate-like finish.
  5. Ease of use.

Cons:

  • If not placed carefully, they may pose a danger to children and pets;
  • the visible effect does not appear immediately;
  • small coverage area compared to electric traps.

Raptor

The trap's design (when intact) eliminates the risk of contact with the active ingredient. The device contains bait, water, glycerin, and the active ingredient—the insecticide chlorpyrifos or lambda-cyhalothrin.

Raptor Poison Trap

Raptor traps are considered to be one of the most effective

The new Double Power product is currently in particularly high demand. The active ingredients used are fipronil and emmamectin benzoate, which are dangerous only for insects and harmless to humans and animals.

Raptor Trap. Double Strength

The new Double Power comes in a white case.

The product costs from 150 rubles for a package containing 6 traps; the new product is slightly more expensive—around 175 rubles for 4 traps.

If there is a large infestation of cockroaches, it is recommended to change Raptor traps more often than every six months, as cockroaches can consume all the bait before its effectiveness expires.

Raid

A systemic drug that uses abamectin (an insecticidal component) as its active ingredient. The trap is odorless, and the bait has a transparent plastic top for easy monitoring of its quantity.

Poison Trap Raid

Raid traps kill insects and their larvae

The Raid trap kills cockroaches and larvae that have been in it, and sterilizes adult cockroaches that have come into contact with an infected insect.

The cost of the drug is from 270 rubles for a package with 4 traps.

The component used in the product prevents cockroaches from becoming accustomed to it. Even insects with so-called high immunity are destroyed.

Combat SuperBait

The Korean manufacturer promises complete destruction of a cockroach colony within just two weeks. The trap contains a new-generation insecticide, hydramethylnon, which causes an epidemic and destroys the population along with its offspring.

Combat SuperBait Poison Trap

The Combat SuperBait trap causes an epidemic among cockroaches and completely destroys the entire colony.

The trap lasts up to three months, has no toxic odor, and, according to the manufacturer, is safe for mammals, even if accidentally swallowed.

The product costs approximately 370 rubles per package containing 6 traps. Packages with 4, 6, 8, and 12 discs are available in various colors.

Dohloks

Domestically produced traps come in two varieties: Instant Poison and the classic Dohloks traps. They are designed for use in apartments and catering establishments.

Dohlox Instant Poison Trap

The Instant Poison series contains an increased amount of the active substance

Despite the unpleasant odor and the IV degree of toxicity (low hazard), it is widely used and popular even abroad due to the high effectiveness of the product. The active ingredient fipronil destroys cockroaches within two days.

Dohloks Poison Trap, Classic Version

The classic version of the product has been produced since 1999 and is still popular.

The price of a classic trap fluctuates around 90 rubles for a package of 6 traps; Instant Poison is slightly more expensive, starting at 120 rubles for the same package.

Clean house

The manufacturer (Russia) recommends using this type of trap immediately after opening. The active ingredient is chlorpyrifos, which has a pronounced toxic effect but does not prevent the development of tolerance.

Poison Trap Clean House

The active ingredient of the Clean House trap has no specific odor.

The small coverage area (6–15 traps per 15 square meters) and relatively short duration of action—1–2 months—can be considered a disadvantage of the product.

The cost of a package with 6 traps is approximately 120 rubles in retail.

Ultrasonic (repellent)

The product is relatively new and has only recently appeared on the market. The trap is based on the principle of action of repelling waves generated by the device.

The device operates on electricity and uses ultrasound to drive cockroaches out of an area. Since this type of trap has generated widespread interest among manufacturers, numerous variations have emerged in a short time, drawing mixed reviews from customers.

The undeniable advantages of using deterrent traps include:

  • durability;
  • cleanliness: the device does not leave stains, as it does not contain bait, and has no smell.

Potential benefits:

  • efficiency;
  • environmental safety;
  • Universality: the trap works on all types of insects.

Cons:

  1. Price. Ultrasound devices are hardly budget-friendly.
  2. Lack of mobility. The device operates on electricity, meaning it must be nearby and have an outlet nearby. Even if battery-powered, the trap cannot be used in areas with high humidity.
  3. Danger to pets.
  4. Presumed negative impact on living organisms, including humans.

When using ultrasonic traps, it is important to follow the instructions carefully.

If you look at the device's operating principle, calling it a "trap" isn't quite right. A trap attracts cockroaches with bait, while an ultrasonic device, on the contrary, is designed to repel them.

Typhoon

This domestically produced repeller boasts a wide application area (up to 80 square meters) and versatility. The instructions indicate that the ultrasonic frequency will repel not only cockroaches, but also ants.

Ultrasonic trap Typhoon

The Typhoon trap repels not only cockroaches, but also ants.

Its undeniable advantages include the long cord included in the kit and a fairly affordable price for a device of this type: from 1,000 rubles in retail stores.

Hail

This type of repeller is only suitable for non-residential premises (workshops, collectors) or private plots. The manufacturer (Russia) guarantees the elimination of all crawling insects, including cockroaches, bedbugs, ants, and spiders, as well as shrews and moles, within a radius of 1,000 square meters.

Ultrasonic trap Grad

Batteries are usually not included in the packaging of the Grad trap, but their use is provided

A power adapter is included. The device has several operating modes and should not be used in close proximity to people. The maximum distance should be at least 2.5 meters.

The cost of the device is approximately 4,500 rubles per set.

Grad works best in open areas. It can be used to disinfect a playground or elevator shaft, for example, from cockroaches. But only at night or when there are no people nearby.

EcoSniper

The device is manufactured in China, but, as stated in the instructions, the trap is specifically adapted for Russian pests. Designed for use in residential premises, it eliminates cockroaches, bedbugs, and ants simultaneously.

EcoSniper Ultrasonic Trap

The model for residential premises is characterized by its compact dimensions

This type of repeller automatically changes frequencies, which prevents pests from becoming accustomed to them. The warranty is for 5 years, the retail price starts from 950 rubles, depending on the model.

EcoSniper devices have varying levels of power: the model described is designed to remove cockroaches and ants, but there are also more powerful ones that get rid of cockroaches and rodents.

How to choose the right trap

A wide selection of cockroach traps allows you to choose the most effective type and product best suited for disinfecting a specific area.

When choosing a trap, consider the following parameters:

  1. The degree of infestation in the premises. If you've only spotted one occasional pest, you can limit yourself to minimal measures. But if you're unlucky enough to move into an apartment and find it already infested with cockroaches, it's best to resort to the most drastic measures listed.
  2. Infestation area. As we've already established, traps vary in the extent of their coverage. A small apartment can be disinfected with glue traps, while workshops or large open spaces may require other devices (such as ultrasonic repellents).
  3. Presence of children and pets. If it is not possible to restrict the presence of children and pets in the contaminated area, the safety of the chosen product is crucial.
  4. Budget. It's important to remember that traps vary in their lifespan and coverage. When choosing a budget option, pay special attention to the contents and the number of traps in the package.
  5. Priorities. The popularity of traps allows for a wide range of preferences to be considered: device appearance, safety, effectiveness, and speed of insect control. Once these priorities are established, traps can be tailored to each specific situation.

DIY cockroach traps

Now that we understand how the main types of traps work, we can make our own at home. You just need to keep in mind that homemade products have their undeniable advantages and certain disadvantages.

The positive aspects of using homemade traps include:

  1. Practically free. The items needed to make your own traps are usually readily available.
  2. Safety and reliability. You know exactly what components you used to create your homemade trap.
  3. Functionality. If desired, you can make a reusable trap.

Cons:

  • not the most effective when used against large groups of cockroaches;
  • Energy consumption: creating a trap with your own hands requires time and effort.

Glue trap

To create a homemade glue trap you will need:

  • a cardboard box or a sheet of cardboard (thick paper), the dimensions can be chosen independently, depending on the desired dimensions of the future trap;
  • a viscous, slow-drying glue or strong double-sided tape; the chosen product should be so sticky that the insect cannot peel off on its own;
  • scissors;
  • Wet or sticky bait food, this consistency releases the scent for a long time, making it ideal for the chosen purpose.

Typically, every apartment has the components listed above. If not, they can be replaced with similar products, but the required properties must be maintained.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Carefully unfold the box. If it's just a sheet of thick paper or cardboard, cut a piece to the desired size.
  2. Pour glue inside, making sure the layer is even, or stick on tape.
  3. The sheet of paper is ready to use, and if you took a box, it needs to be folded again.
  4. We place the chosen bait directly on top of the sticky layer and leave it in the place where cockroaches congregate.
    Homemade glue trap

If you choose the right components, then the effectiveness of a homemade glue trap will be no less than that of a store-bought one.

  5. The next morning, we check the trap's fullness and the condition of the sticky layer. Depending on these factors, we either destroy the insects along with the trap or save them for future use.

Alternatively, you can simply stick strong double-sided tape along the baseboards and in places where cockroaches most often appear at night.

Electric trap

You can make an electric trap yourself if you have the skills to apply conductors to special tiles and the ability to solder simple circuits.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Assemble the multiplier according to the diagram, strictly following the principle of connecting diodes and capacitors.
    Multiplier circuit

The circuit converts 220 volts into one and a half kilovolts, which will be supplied to the tracks.

  2. Along the perimeter of the inner wall (a plate made of foil-clad textolite or other metallized plastic), two non-intersecting tracks must be etched in a spiral at a distance of 2 mm from each other.
    Spark gap circuit

To avoid having to rework the plate, the tracks need to be etched very carefully.

  3. Drill a hole for the bait in the center of the plate. It's best to make the entrance for the cockroaches on the side of the trap body, and place the bait in the corners.
    Homemade electric trap for cockroaches

A self-assembled device can also be compact

  4. Connect the tracks to the power supply. Assemble the trap in a housing made of any insulating material.
  5. The principle of operation is that a cockroach, attracted by the bait, runs along the ceiling of the trap, completes the circuit, receives a shock, and falls into the hole, clearing the way for the next one. Making the bottom part removable makes cleaning the trap of dead insects easier.
  6. When assembling, installing and cleaning the trap, it is necessary to observe safety regulations, especially keeping it out of the reach of children and inquisitive pets.

One of the creators of the scheme used smelly beer or yeast diluted with a small amount of sugar as bait for a homemade electric trap.

Mechanical traps

This method is the simplest and easiest to make, as all you need for a mechanical trap is bait, some vegetable oil, and a housing.

Depending on what is at hand at the moment, a mechanical trap can be made from a glass jar or a plastic bottle.

Homemade jar trap

Making a trap from a jar is carried out in the following steps:

  1. Wrap a glass jar (capacity from 0.8 to 1.5 liters) in paper or any material through which the cockroach can easily crawl to the top.
  2. Coat the sides of the jar with oil or any other gliding agent to prevent the insect from escaping.
  3. Place bait at the bottom of the improvised trap. It's best to use odorous leftover food or drinks.
    Jar trap

You can make a trap from a jar very quickly and without unnecessary expenses.

  4. Place in the affected area overnight, pour boiling water over it in the morning, and discard the contents. Can be used as often as needed.

Plastic bottle trap

A trap made from a plastic bottle is prepared as follows:

  1. We cut a plastic bottle, preferably with a capacity of 1.5 liters, crosswise, approximately two-thirds from the base.
  2. Place or pour bait with a pleasant smell for pests into the bottom of the bottle.
  3. We unscrew the lid from the funnel formed at the top and insert it tightly into the bottom of the bottle.
    Bottle trap

Cockroaches have no chance of escaping from a simple device made from a plastic bottle.

  4. We place them in places where cockroaches congregate, and in the morning we destroy any insects that appear.

Hastily constructed mechanical traps rarely look attractive. Therefore, it's best to place them in places where they won't spoil the decor.

Video: Plastic Bottle Trap

Poison trap

Homemade poison traps are typically made with boric acid. The advantages of this solution include its affordability and relative effectiveness.

Boric acid

When using boric acid, precautions must be taken.

There are several disadvantages to using it in this case:

  • Toxicity: Boric acid should not be used in the presence of children and pets;
  • easily neutralized: if a poisoned cockroach manages to reach a water source, boric acid will not destroy it;
  • Energy consumption: boric acid bait is made in the form of self-molded balls with the addition of attractive food substances. Before use, the room must be completely dry, removing all possible sources of water.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Prepare the filling: hard-boil the eggs, remove the yolks, and mash them with a fork. Alternatively, you can make powdered sugar with vanilla for a more appetizing flavor.
  2. Roll small balls from boric acid and mashed yolks; mix powdered sugar with boric acid powder in a 1:1 ratio.
Boric acid is mixed with the filler

It will take time to prepare baits with boric acid

  3. Place the prepared bait in a pre-dried room away from children and pets.

It's a good idea to add powdered alabaster or gypsum to the resulting mixture. This will kill any cockroaches that reach the water once the substance hardens inside their guts.

Argus "Glue Trap" Cockroach Protection - Who Lives in the Little House?

Pros: inexpensive, non-toxic

Disadvantages: not very effective

Our city is experiencing a cockroach infestation this year, after seemingly disappearing from our apartments for good several years ago. Since we have a small child at home, we decided to use non-toxic methods—glue traps. They cost between 13 rubles in group purchases and 30 rubles in regular stores. The trap is a cardboard house with bait and glue at the bottom. The cockroach should sense the bait, happily crawl inside, and become permanently stuck. We'll take a look inside and see what we've found in about five days. Overall, two large cockroaches and about eight small ones. Not a huge number, but at least it's something.

Argus Glue Trap - Non-toxic, inexpensive cockroach trap.

Advantages: Non-toxic.

Disadvantages: It won't save forever.

I bought an apartment with cockroaches. I didn't see them during the inspection before the purchase, but when they gave me the keys and removed all my furniture, I realized the apartment was infested with "pets." That was six years ago, and the apartment was in terrible condition (I was short on money and wanted more space). So I immediately started renovating. It was a massive renovation. Absolutely everything in the apartment was changed! The cockroaches didn't like it and happily left, heading somewhere unknown to me. I was so happy about that and completely forgot that cockroaches existed in this world.

But a year ago, the neighbors next door started renovating, and the noise was also spectacular. Then I started noticing cockroaches running around when I went into the kitchen in the evening and turned on the light! Of course, I immediately ran to the store and bought some gel to get rid of these horrible insects, but a month passed—they were still running around. There weren't many of them, but they were still there. Then I bought some insecticide (I started finding dead bodies, but they were still running around). Then I tried dichlorvos (I went on vacation for two days and sprayed the apartment with it). It didn't seem to work at all. For a long time, I experimented with different poisons.

But the cockroaches kept coming. And then about a week ago, I came across a sticky bait trap for cockroaches and ants. I liked the price—20 rubles—and also that the trap was non-toxic. It lasts up to 3 months (quite a long time). I placed them on the table and along the walls. I had 5 of them in total. The idea behind the trap is also quite simple: there's a tasty, enticing bait in the middle, and a sticky base around the edges. The cockroach rushes to the food and remains stuck in the sticky base forever. It won't be able to run far. And then you can simply destroy the trap. Of course, it's impossible to completely exterminate them this way, but there are noticeably fewer of them! Now, when I go into the kitchen in the evening, I don't see them. In the summer, I plan to call specially trained people to treat the apartment, and of course, I'll happily relax somewhere during this time. I think this is the only way I can get rid of them for good. I hope everyone never encounters these insects.

Taiga Glue Trap for Cockroaches – A Safe Way to Fight Cockroaches

Advantages: Effective against cockroaches, safe, price

Disadvantages: None

Our apartment building is home to such nasty creatures as cockroaches. We constantly get rid of them in our apartment, which helps temporarily, but then they reappear, apparently from the neighbors. After all, control should be comprehensive and building-wide. Unfortunately, no one is doing this… So, I have to constantly fight them on my own property. Since there are small children and pets in the house, using toxic products is dangerous for their health, my latest purchase was a "Taiga" glue trap for cockroaches. I thought it was a trifle and the cockroaches wouldn't fall for it. I bought one to try out; it was inexpensive—30 rubles. I set it up and left for the weekend. Upon returning, we discovered that the trap had actually caught cockroaches, both large and small.

Some were still alive, but their legs were so firmly stuck in place that they couldn't escape! It stayed in place for two weeks, and new ones appeared every night. I liked this trap for its effectiveness. It's completely safe for people and animals, but it helps control cockroaches. You can install it anywhere, even where food is stored. It retains its properties for a very long time; the manufacturer states three months. We used it for the first two weeks and it was still effective. Overall, this is now our go-to cockroach control tool; we bought a few extra at Auchan the other day and placed them around the kitchen. It's effective and safe, you couldn't ask for a better one. So, I definitely recommend it!

The Garant "Pregrada" glue trap is the best cockroach repellent so far.

Pros: Stays trapped in the sticky tape

Disadvantages: I didn't find any downsides

This product really helped me get rid of the insects very quickly. Unlike other products, it's odorless and can be placed out of reach of the child. We've been free of them for at least four months now, and haven't noticed any more insect infestations.

The Raptor cockroach trap seems to have worked.

Pros: Effective

Disadvantages: none

I hate cockroaches with every fiber of my being and am terrified of them, so when I saw one of these insects in our apartment, I nearly lost my mind. It turned out that a troubled family lived on the first floor of our building, and they bred these insects. Then they sold the apartment and moved out, and the new tenants started renovating, and all the insects ran to other apartments. First, they ran to the neighbor on the second floor, and from there they crawled to us on the third floor. So, talking with the neighbor on the second floor, we found out that he had exterminated all the cockroaches by buying Raptor traps. He even had dead cockroaches strewn all over the floor. Naturally, we bought these traps too. They were sold at the Pyaterochka store for 160 rubles a pack.

The package contains 6 traps, plus two free traps, for a total of 8. The traps are some new design—I'm not sure, I haven't seen the old one—with an improved "lambda-cyhalothrin" formula that affects the insects' central nervous system. They're ordinary little black boxes, discreet, containing a special poison gel. The packaging indicates how to use them. It's recommended to use 2-3 traps per 10 square meter room for a small insect population. We had only a few, so we placed all 8 traps throughout the apartment, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. As for the time it took from setting the traps until all the insects disappeared, it was about a month (the packaging doesn't indicate when the traps will completely eliminate the cockroaches, so we waited patiently).

You know, it's really unpleasant, for example, to turn on the light in the kitchen at night and see a cockroach on the table. Well, now, even at night, when I turn on the lights in the bathroom, kitchen, or toilet, I don't see them, and I haven't seen them for a long time. It's probably true that, gradually, the cockroaches, having fed on the bait, infect their fellow cockroaches, which are out of sight, and entire colonies die. True, I didn't see any corpses. But now I can recommend these traps because I've seen undeniable results. Although our case wasn't as severe as when cockroaches crawl in droves, they might not be suitable for such cases, but if, like in our case, you've had occasional cockroaches coming from the neighbors due to renovations, they work—I've tested them! By the way, it's recommended to replace the traps after six months, so I hope we won't have to do that.

Raptor Cockroach Trap – Got Cockroaches? They Won't Be!

Advantages: easy to use, less dangerous

Disadvantages: Not as effective

Many will chuckle after reading my review. "What's the big deal?" "Where are these creatures?" "We don't have any cockroaches." Yes, I thought so too. I was only familiar with these "mustachioed" creatures as a child, and then forgot about them for many years. But it turns out they inhabit other places, and apparently they wandered into our apartment from there (we suspect they "arrived" in our relative's suitcases and bags). Whatever the case, they've settled in our kitchen, hiding in corners and under cabinets, and sometimes the boldest ones even escape from their hiding places and scurry into the bedroom. My wife, of course, waged war on them, sometimes swatting them with a fly swatter, sometimes sprinkling them with poison, but the cockroaches still haven't disappeared.

Then I joined the war. I found information online about a variety of methods for controlling these insects. Among them, the "Raptor" traps seemed the most effective. I bought a pack of six traps. The traps are plastic disc-shaped boxes with holes in the sides. The traps work like this: cockroaches are attracted to the bait inside the disc; they enter and consume the poisonous bait. After this, they can scurry around for a while, but die within an hour or so. The authors' theory is that poisoned cockroaches pass the poison to other cockroaches, and so on down the line, until soon there will be no more cockroaches. In our case, the cockroaches died, but not all of them; apparently, the poison wasn't transmitted from cockroach to cockroach. Eventually, the cockroaches disappeared from our apartment, but only for other reasons. I bought and installed two more packs of disc traps around the perimeter of the kitchen. We also started fighting the cockroaches in time, preventing them from multiplying significantly. Despite the Raptor traps' limited effectiveness, I recommend using them in combination with other products. They're also safer than aerosols or gels, for example.

Raid Max Transparent Cockroach Lures - Long-Lasting

Advantages: Safe

Disadvantages: You need to take care of it earlier, or combine it with another remedy

I remember we bought an apartment. And there were tons of cockroaches in there. It was just terrifying. They were scurrying around the apartment like crazy. We bought this bait, hoping to get rid of them quickly, but it wasn't to be. It turns out they first dine inside the bait, after which they become poisoned. When they crawl out, they infect their fellow cockroaches. Until everyone is infected, then they'll start dying off little by little. So if you want to get rid of these insects with bait, you need to buy it in advance. Or combine it with another product to get rid of the cockroaches faster. The good thing is that it's odorless and won't harm people or pets, but it's still best to place the bait somewhere inaccessible to you and your pet.

Azurit Lux "Dohloks" cockroach traps are effective but inconvenient.

Advantages: good effect, low price

Disadvantages: cardboard box, can't be attached to the wall

Recently, my grandmother's apartment acquired new pets—cockroaches. Our neighbors had been exterminating them at their place, so they fled to ours for a better life. We'd never encountered this problem before, so at first, I wasn't sure which product to buy. The store had a wide selection: aerosols, gels, adhesive tapes, and traps. The salesperson saw I was confused and recommended the Azurit Lux "Dohloks" cockroach traps. There were six in a package. The mini-boxes are made of thick cardboard. We didn't dare place them near the sink, as we were afraid the water would soak them. The trap has small holes on all four sides. Inside the box is some kind of substance. The consistency and color resemble play dough or play dough.

But I really didn't like the fact that the trap doesn't have Velcro on the back. This means it's impossible to stick it to a wall or any inclined surface. However, it's worth noting that the Azurit Lux "Dohloks" cockroach traps are truly effective. The cockroaches were gone within a week. So, I recommend these traps to everyone. They're not too expensive. I paid about 110 rubles for a pack. But for a 46 square meter apartment, it wasn't enough, so I had to buy an extra pack.

I made the electric trap myself, it's certainly cool. There were about 5 pops at night, and it fries. In the picture, the electrodes are far away, small ones will fit through. The distance needs to be shorter, but there's nothing better than a SES. Only after they were treated, they all disappeared.

The Alex Typhoon LS-500 ultrasonic cockroach repellent from MNPF is a traumatic experience for the cat, and its effectiveness remains questionable.

Pros: The light blinks beautifully.

Disadvantages: unpleasant sound, shock for pets, effectiveness is highly questionable.

I happened to move to the first floor. And everything was going well... until I saw a fat German cockroach scurrying across the kitchen. I killed it, of course, and wasn't so worried until I spotted a couple more of its brethren. I found an ad online for ultrasonic repellers for insects, mice, moles, and other critters. Naturally, I was eager to buy one. I hadn't looked for reviews or read them yet, but the ad described everything so well that I immediately ordered the Typhoon-LS500 Ultrasonic Cockroach Repeller. One device is designed for a room of up to 80 m2. Walls and soft barriers like sofas and curtains absorb the ultrasound, making the device ineffective. The device can, of course, be used in a room with furniture, but you shouldn't place it against the wall behind a sofa, for example.

When I turn on the device, it makes a nasty, sharp sound and the light starts flashing different colors. The sharp sound only occurs at first, then disappears, followed by a different one. I don't know how to describe it: scraping, squeaking, thin... very unpleasant for the ears. Basically, I turned on the device and forgot about it. But my cat didn't forget and didn't appreciate the benefits of the ultrasonic repellent at all. When I turned on the device, its fur stood on end and it trotted out of the kitchen. Only after a week did the cat seem to calm down and stop paying attention to the device. Many websites selling the Typhoon LS500 claim that cats and dogs don't react to the device. Well, that's not true. They certainly do. I had the device for about a year, and during that time I never saw a single cockroach. However, beetles and spiders occasionally graced my visit. Therefore, it's safe to say that the device is generally ineffective against insects. It's been about four years since I switched off the Typhoon ultrasonic repeller. During this time, I've encountered cockroaches in the kitchen once or twice.

The Alex Typhoon LS-500 Ultrasonic Cockroach Repeller from MNPF is designed to eliminate cockroaches.

Advantages: none

Disadvantages: does not perform its functions

I bought one. I was watching TV and they started advertising the MNPF Alex Typhoon LS-500 Ultrasonic Cockroach Repeller. And of course, I was curious about it, since we live in an apartment and sometimes suffer from these cockroaches. Oh, what can I say? It's just a generic, over-hyped device that doesn't do its job. My cockroaches stayed in the kitchen and didn't run away. But then, when I had this device in my possession, I realized why I needed to repel them if I needed to kill them. I already had this device in my possession. I want to warn you, don't buy it; it's not effective; it's just a waste of money.

EcoSniper UP-118 Ultrasonic Cockroach Repeller – Used it against fleas – even cats ran away!

Advantages: repels cockroaches, fleas, ticks, and bedbugs—universal protection, low cost

Disadvantages: none, I think

The repellent works and does it quite well. First, it was field-tested on cockroaches in the pantry—it was successful, everything that was there and that was running past disappeared. Then I decided to test its secondary function—dispersing fleas and other insects. We have two cats and a Pekingese in the house; they go outside and "make friends" with other animals, so flea control has become a real tradition for us. We tried collars, drops, shampoos—nothing mattered. The fleas would decrease slightly, but after a few days, everything would start to happen again, and then the carpets and sofas would be filled with fleas—a complete nightmare.

We installed a repeller in the entryway and noticed that the fleas on the couch and in the hallway had stopped biting. When the cats lay down in the rows by the entryway, they'd start scratching themselves profusely—the fleas were rampaging. We then installed another device in the living room and finally got rid of these pesky insects. Literally three weeks after starting Operation Flea Out, we felt comfortable in the house, and so did our pets—everything was running away from them. When combined with flea collars, the repellers provide virtually 100% protection against fleas and ticks (they also flee their habitats in terror). A useful gadget, we're completely satisfied!

How to Get Rid of Cockroaches - Very Cheap and 100% Effective!

Advantages: Safe for humans, inexpensive, effective

Disadvantages: None!

And I got rid of the cockroaches!!! It was a complete horror! There were tons of them. They weren't afraid of light, people, or anything... We tried to kill them with bait, chalk, gels, and basically everything we could. Zero effect. And then I remembered that a long time ago, in the apartment where I lived with my mother as a child, we also had cockroaches. I remember getting rid of them in literally a few weeks!!! And forever!!! I asked my mother what we did then. So, take (approximately, depending on the area) 2 potatoes and 2 eggs and boil them together for 40 minutes. Boil the potatoes in their skins so they don't fall apart. Then cool everything, peel, mash with a masher, turning it into a puree. Then, add two packets of boric acid powder (available at any pharmacy for pennies) to the puree. Mix the mixture thoroughly and begin rolling small balls, placing them in corners, baseboards, and anywhere else where cockroaches are found.

And we wait for the results. After about a week (well... give or take), we start sweeping up the corpses. If they die right in their holes, then you're lucky, because I had mountains of corpses! Brrr... But it's worth it! If there are a lot of cockroaches, they'll most likely gobble up the first portion of "delicacy." Then we just repeat. The huge advantage of this product is that it's 100% safe for humans! These balls can be placed near food, even on the dining table!!! And it's cheap. A packet of acid costs 8 rubles (at least at the pharmacy near my house). And potatoes and eggs are usually available. If cockroaches are bothering you, give it a try!

Now that you understand how cockroach traps work, have reviewed the most popular models of each type, read reviews, and even learned how to make your own traps, you can secure your home using the method that works best for you.
