Unfortunately, not everyone can afford a cat or dog. Some suffer from allergies, while others simply don't have the time to properly care for a pet. However, don't give up on your dream of a pet just yet. We'll tell you about the most low-maintenance pets that are suitable for people with active lifestyles.
Rabbit
Cute, fluffy animals are a great stress reliever after a tiring day at work. They've long since transitioned from farm animals to decorative pets. A variety of species allows you to choose the perfect pet for your needs, in terms of size, color, and lifestyle.
Keeping such a pet is not particularly difficult. The cage can be placed anywhere:
- in the room;
- on the balcony;
- in the kitchen.
Cleaning the cage once a week is sufficient. However, refilling the food and changing the water as often as possible is essential. Trim the claws once a month to prevent them from growing into the pads and injuring the animal. Brushing is essential during shedding season. That's basically all the care you need.
Sometimes it's worth letting your rabbit out to run around the apartment. However, they need to be supervised to ensure they don't injure themselves, such as climbing into areas they shouldn't or getting hurt by doors.
Some owners leave their pets unattended while they go to work. But then you have to be prepared for the wires to get chewed.
Canary
If you're a fan of trills and want to feel the spring in your home every day, then get a canary. This bright yellow bird will never let you get bored. Its ringing trills will greet you after a long absence, reminding you that you're welcomed home.
This bird doesn't require much care, but it does need a cage with various perches, cushions, a water bottle, and a feeder. The bottom of the cage is the canary's toilet. Therefore, it's best to line it with paper, sawdust, or sand. It's best to change the tray every three days.
Canaries aren't picky about food. You can buy a special formula at a pet store and add a couple of teaspoons to their feeder daily. If you're going to be away for a long time and won't be able to refill the feeder with treats, fill it up a little more.
At least once a week, your bird should be allowed to stretch its wings. Therefore, it's best to move the cage to a room where the canary won't be able to harm itself or your property while flying. A 15-20 minute walk is sufficient.
To prevent your loud pet from waking you up at the crack of dawn, cover the cage with a thick cloth. You can also quickly tame the bird simply by interacting with it. Canaries have a very trusting nature.
Snake
This is an unusual pet. Suitable for people with an eccentric personality. A king snake, also known as a "climbing snake," is worth getting. This species is completely non-aggressive.
You need to prepare for such a pet. You need to purchase a terrarium and choose a location for it. A spacious fish tank will also do. A basking lamp is essential, as is sand or soil.
A branchy, vine-like structure that your snake can crawl and swing on will be excellent entertainment for your snake.
If you're squeamish about feeding your snake live mice, small chicken eggs will do. You only need to feed your snake once a week.
Hamster
The hamster is easy to care for and is very popular – you can buy it at any pet store.
The key to caring for your hamster is developing a proper feeding schedule. Specialized food can be purchased at any pet store. If you don't have any, you can crumble some bread and some fruits or vegetables. One feeding per day is sufficient.
Since hamsters tend to hoard, cleaning their litter box can be stressful. Therefore, it's best not to do it too often.
The furry creature lives in a small cage. Water and food bowls, as well as a few rags, will create a true paradise for it. A wheel and other entertainment options are available upon request.
Turtle
This slow-moving animal brings a smile of delight to the eye. It quickly becomes accustomed to its owner's touch and allows itself to be petted.
There are two types of turtles: land and water. The former is the most undemanding. It requires a terrarium with a light bulb, substrate, pebbles, and a water bottle. Fresh vegetables and fruits are suitable for feeding. You can also purchase specialized food at a pet store.
Once a week, you can brush the paws and shell with a soft toothbrush. Occasionally, it's a good idea to let the animal crawl around the apartment.
In mid-autumn, the lamp should be turned off. Then the turtle will hibernate for six months. In the spring, the lamp is gradually turned back on.
Based on the animal species listed, you can find a companion to suit your needs. They will happily tolerate your absence and bring you joy during moments of companionship.
