How to make a cat house yourself

Cats spend two-thirds of their lives sleeping. To ensure their pets get a good night's rest, many buy a bed or a house in the store where they can hide and relax. However, you can make a cozy tent for your pet at home using household items. This process doesn't take much time or effort, and it can even bring joy.

For work you will need:

  • an old T-shirt made of any material;
  • thick cardboard measuring 15*15 cm;
  • wire or two wire hangers;
  • nippers or pliers;
  • masking tape;
  • awl;
  • pins or needle and thread.

Base

For the base, use a sturdy cardboard square measuring 15 x 15 cm. A shoebox or shoe lid will work well. Tape the edges with masking tape for added strength. This is especially important if using corrugated cardboard. Using an awl, make holes in the corners of the base, leaving a 1-1.5 cm gap, to insert the wire base.

Frame made of hangers

The top loop of the wire hangers is cut off with wire cutters or pliers. The remaining portion is unbent and straightened as much as possible. Then, the resulting pieces are bent identically to each other into an arc shape, resembling the frame of an awning or tent. The ends of the frame should fit precisely into the holes in the base. The wire arcs are crossed in the center, point down, and secured with masking tape. The ends of both arcs should be aligned to ensure the frame is stable.

The ends of the frame are threaded through the holes in the cardboard base, leaving small "tails" 2-2.5 cm long. These are used to secure the frame to the base. After ensuring the frame is straight, the ends of the wire are bent. You can also tape them again on top with masking tape to prevent the wire from slipping in the grooves.

Attaching a T-shirt

A T-shirt is stretched over the resulting structure so that the neckline is on one of the walls of the tent, roughly in the middle. The fabric is pulled taut, and the loose ends and sleeves are folded down toward the base. They can be pinned or hemmed. If the T-shirt is too long, it can be shortened slightly. The fabric should be pulled tightly enough with minimal sag, thus creating a tent.

The pet's house is ready! For added comfort, you can add a pillow and some catnip inside.
