Ultrasonic repeller: a safe and effective method of rodent control

Many residents of private homes, the first and last floors of multi-story buildings, and garage and warehouse owners face the presence of rodents indoors. Mice and rats are dangerous neighbors, carrying a variety of dangerous diseases. Getting rid of these pests is not easy. Previously used methods have become less effective over time: mousetraps, poisons, baits, and even cats no longer do the job. Sooner or later, the rodents return. One of the most effective means of controlling these animals today is an ultrasonic repeller.

What is an ultrasonic repeller?

The effects of ultrasound on living organisms have long been known. However, its use in pest control has only recently begun.

Ultrasound is sound waves with a frequency of 32–64 kHz. The human ear is unable to perceive such sounds, but the hearing of rodents is more sensitive.

Ultrasonic repeller

An ultrasonic repeller is one of the most humane ways to combat pests.

How the device works

Ultrasonic repellers produce distinctive sounds that repel mice and rats. The sound vibrations generated by the device irritate and disorient the rodents, causing them to flee their territory in fear. Experiencing acoustic stress, the animals are unable to reproduce or feed, forcing them to abandon areas where they feel uncomfortable.

The effect of ultrasound on a mouse

Driven by a sense of danger, rats and mice leave their favorite premises.

Note: Using ultrasonic repellers in rooms with hamsters, guinea pigs, and other small animals is not recommended. It's important to remember that they perceive sound in the same way as wild mice and rats.

When purchasing an ultrasonic rodent repellent, there are a few things to consider:

  • soft surfaces absorb ultrasound, making it ineffective;
  • Sound vibrations are not able to penetrate through walls.

Electric cat: characteristics, operation, advantages

The Electrocat repellent is a device that emits specific sound waves. Their strength is constantly changing. The repelling effect is further enhanced by LED flashes. This combination of effects negatively impacts the psyche of rodents, causing them to seek a way out and then leave the premises permanently. Thus, the Electrocat will help rid your home of rats and wild mice, but it does not affect insects.

Running rats and mice

Ultrasound causes stress in rodents and makes them want to leave the room as soon as possible.

The electric cat is equipped with two operating modes: day and night. To change between these modes, simply press a button on the device itself. Night mode supplements the emitted ultrasound with acoustic vibrations (a faint squeak) that are audible even to the human ear. Daytime mode disables this feature, as people may be near the device at this time, and the sound emitted by the device may cause discomfort.

Electrocat device modes

In night mode, sound effects are added to the ultrasonic radiation

The Electrocat repeller has two varieties: Classic and Turbo.

Classic Electrocat Repeller

The classic Electrocat is manufactured by the Russian company BIOS. It can be used both indoors and outdoors. A 220V power supply is required to connect the device.

Classic Electric Cat

The Electrocat repeller can be used to control rodents in residential, office and warehouse premises, as well as in food processing plants and in the holds of ships.

The frequency of the acoustic vibrations depends on the selected mode. In the day mode (green button), it ranges from 17–20 to 50–100 kHz, while in the night mode (red button), it ranges from 5–8 to 30–40 kHz.

This device weighs 250 grams and has the following dimensions:

  • width - 6.5 cm;
  • height - 10.9 cm;
  • length - 2.5 cm.

The signal coverage area of the classic Electrocat reaches 200 square meters, the angle of action is 110 degrees. The repeller operates at temperatures from -30°From to +40°WITH.

The delivery set includes the Electrocat device itself, a power supply, a technical data sheet, a plug with a cable for connecting other power sources, and packaging.

The device comes with a 10-year warranty. The operating time at the time of failure must not exceed 5,000 hours. After this period, the warranty expires. The device starts at 1,100 rubles.

Electric Cat Turbo

The Electric Cat Turbo has exactly the same characteristics as the classic one. However, the ultrasound propagation area increases to 400 square meters. The device's appearance has also been slightly modified, but it still has the same dimensions.

Electric Cat Turbo

The presence of a bright LED has an additional effect on the psyche of rodents, which, in combination with ultrasonic waves, increases the effectiveness of the repeller

The price for the Electrocat Turbo device starts at 1,250 rubles.

When choosing a device, you should determine the area you plan to use it in. If the area is more than two hundred square meters, then the Turbo system should be purchased.

How to use the device correctly

A power supply is used to connect the Electrocat to the power grid. When placing the device indoors, ensure the installation area is clear of any objects that could interfere with the radiation. The device must be installed no lower than 30 cm from the floor. For this purpose, the device itself is equipped with a special mount.

When using the Electrocat, the following precautions must be observed:

  1. It is prohibited to use a device that has mechanical damage.
  2. Do not block the ventilation openings of the power supply unit while using the device.
  3. It is prohibited to place the power supply and the repeller itself near heating devices: radiators, stoves, etc.
  4. You should not disassemble or attempt to repair the device yourself.
  5. Do not place the device close to your ears or eyes (minimum permissible distance is 50 cm).
  6. If the device or power supply gets wet, do not use the device.
  7. It is not allowed to wipe the repeller and its parts with gasoline or solvents.
  8. The device must be used only for its intended purpose.

Note: If the device has been exposed to cold temperatures, keep it indoors for at least 2 hours before plugging it in.

The effectiveness and advantages of the Electrocat

Numerous experiments have shown that rodents exposed to ultrasound experience severe stress, forcing them to abandon their territory. When using the Electrocat, mice and rats completely abandon their territory within four weeks, with the first results visible after just ten days.

Rats

Acoustic signals of different frequencies have a negative impact on rodents: the animals become panicked and anxious, forcing them to quickly leave their inhabited territory.

Note: Newborn rodents are deaf for 14 days. Ultrasound will not affect them during this period.

If you feel like the rat and mouse population has increased after using Electrocat, don't worry. Initially, the rodents become less vigilant due to stress, so they don't hide from people. Over time, all the rats and mice will leave your home. To prevent the return of old rodents and the appearance of new ones, the repeller should be turned on weekly for two to three days.

The advantages of this device are that:

  • The device can be used in residential premises, as it is absolutely harmless to people and pets;
  • The electric cat does not interfere with televisions, radios or fire alarms;
  • the constant change of sound signals prevents rodents from getting used to the radiation;
  • The device has a silent operating mode.

User reviews of the ultrasonic repeller

Autumn has arrived! Rodents are running into the house, and I'm so fed up with the constant scratching and squeaking! One day, I went out and bought the Electrokot Ultrasonic Mouse and Rat Repeller. At first, I didn't really believe it would work! I came home, installed it, and waited! I used to think we only had one mouse, but after I installed the ultrasound, there were more! But since I read the instructions first, I wasn't scared! The instructions say that ultrasound doesn't affect human hearing and isn't perceived by humans, but it's devastating to rodents because it instills fear in them. They lose their instinct for self-preservation and start running out, unsure what to do! That's why there are more mice now—they sense the ultrasound! They get so frantic that they start running like crazy! But after just a week of using it, they've almost disappeared; or rather, there might be one that didn't manage to escape! But the preventative course is 2-3 months! Even if mice are not observed, prevention should be carried out at least 2-3 times a week!

Pros: No need to set traps or sprinkle rodent poison (if the repeller is effective). Easy to use. Cons: Very unpleasant sound in "Day" mode. There's no definitive answer as to the device's effectiveness. My husband bought the "ElectroKot" electronic rat and mouse repellent. We decided to give it a try. We set rat traps and turned on the repeller. The electronic repeller came in a black box with a picture of a cat. We caught one rat in the trap, and the repeller worked flawlessly for several days. Others come and go. They rustle one day, then seem to be gone the next. Maybe they feel discomfort, but it doesn't really show. No one has come in a while now, I hope not to jinx it. But that's when they stop their exploits. This was the case last year too. So I don't have a definitive answer as to the effectiveness of this device. But I wouldn't say the rodents run away from him. They leisurely go about their business, promising to return.

After two months of continuous operation in silent mode at night, not a single tailed, nasty mouse-like creature has fallen into the fully charged mousetraps I've set up in my homes. Where I used to retrieve captured rodents, now I only use bait. The mice are gone, completely. Now I can't hear their rustling at night, like I used to. There are no mouse tracks or smells either. It's beautiful. I can't say anything about rats, though, because we didn't have any to begin with. It turns out that the people who wrote negative reviews about this useful device either have mutant mice, or they never bought the ElectroCat and are simply lying, misleading and misleading readers of reviews about it. Why they do this, I don't understand. I also haven't noticed an increase in my electricity bill for the ElectroCat. So, if you're tired of the constant mouse wars at home, buy our Russian ElectroKots. They'll "negotiate" with the mice so they leave your home. Incidentally, this will be a humane decision for them. I highly recommend them. Five stars.

We have a cat, and although he's a good mouser, he can't keep up with the influx of mice in autumn. We bought him an electric mouser, and things improved. It works, but if you turn it on ultrasonic, the squeaking noise doesn't last long. We tried turning it on when we weren't home and turning it off when we were. We saw results.

We bought an electric mouse pad and it's been sitting there for a whole year, but the mice are still there. In short, it's not helping.

We decided to buy an ultrasonic mouse repellent, as we were plagued by mice this winter, both under the floor, in the attic, and in storage rooms. Our cats were catching 2-3 mice every day, but the number of mice didn't decrease. We ordered an Electrocat online; it's designed for areas up to 200 square meters. We were attracted by the low price and the fact that it runs on 220V. We turned it on and waited for results. After three days, the mice went crazy, coming out into the rooms in broad daylight. Ultimately, after about a month, the mice were gone from the house, but they had moved into the outbuildings and neighbors' houses. We had to buy two more Electrocats, one for the neighbors and one for the outbuildings. Overall, this device is effective, as stated in the operating instructions; results appear in about a month. One of the downsides is the flashing, super-bright LED, which is annoying in living areas, but this was easily resolved - my daughter covered it with gum. Also, when working, there is a slight beeping sound that is annoying at night.

The Electrokot ultrasonic repeller is an excellent tool for rodent control. It will get rid of unwanted neighbors without causing any trouble for you or your pets. Proper use, careful maintenance, and installation in a dry location will ensure years of use.
