Dohloks Cockroach Gel: Description and Application

When cockroaches appear in your home, it's hard to remain calm, as these insects are repulsive to almost everyone. It's natural to want to get rid of these uninvited neighbors. There are many products available for controlling these household pests, and one of the most popular is Dohloks gel.

Description of Dohloks gel

In fact, there are two manufacturers of anti-cockroach gels called "Dohloks"—Oboronkhim and Dohloks Technologies. Oboronkhim's gel is more well-known; it's even recommended by the Ministry of Health. However, the product from Dohloks Technologies LLC is also effective.

Let's consider both varieties.

Dohloks from PO Oboronkhim

Dohloks gel is available in syringe form and contains the active ingredient fipronil. This is an insect poison that has both contact and intestinal effects, meaning that insects are poisoned both when they come into contact with the gel and when they eat it.

Dohloks Oboronkhim

Dohloks Oboronkhim is a white gel available in 30g syringes.

The effect on the cockroach's body is as follows: the substance disrupts the transmission of impulses in the nervous system and destroys its cells, resulting in paralysis and death. Fipronil has a delayed effect, so the cockroach's death does not occur immediately, but rather after several hours. This allows the insect time to infect other cockroaches with the poison through contact. Dead cockroaches are often eaten by living ones, providing additional poison to their bodies.

Nowadays, there are many counterfeit anti-cockroach gels available, including Dohloks. There are some features of the packaging's appearance, stated by the manufacturer, that will allow you to distinguish the original and purchase a quality product:

  • The syringe with gel is made of white plastic;

    The original syringe with Dohloks Oboronkhim gel has a specially shaped plunger

  • The brand logo is depicted on the end of the syringe.

    The end of the syringe with Dohloks has a cast trademark - a star.

Dohloks from Dohloks Technologies

There are three types of gel from this manufacturer, differing in composition and strength of action:

  • "Dohloks Instant Poison." Like Oboronkhimovsky gel, it contains fipronil (0.06%). Cockroaches begin to die within the first 24 hours after application, with most dying within 2-3 days. Available in a bottle, syringe, and sachet.
  • "Dohloks Kills the Infection!" also contains fipronil, but at a slightly lower concentration (0.05%). Cockroaches die within 1–3 days. This gel is available as a syringe and sachets.
  • Dohloks Premium. The active ingredient is fipronil (0.05%). It acts on pests in a similar way to other variations. The product is available in syringes or sachets. According to the manufacturer, this gel is hypoallergenic.

    "Dohloks" from "Dohloks Technologies" has an image of "cockroach death" on the packaging.

This company's gels lack distinctive packaging features that would allow one to identify counterfeits. To purchase quality products, you should purchase them from specialized stores and Dohloks Technologies LLC pickup points.

In addition to the listed substances, Dohloks gels from both manufacturers contain additives that attract cockroaches. Thanks to them, insects perceive the product as a treat and eat it with pleasure.

How to apply

First, clean up, removing crumbs and other food scraps that cockroaches love. They shouldn't have any other food options besides the gel.

Next, you need to put on gloves and apply the gel along the baseboards and in other places where there are most cockroaches.

Dohloks gel

Using a syringe allows you to dose the gel as desired.

There's no need to create a continuous line; squeezing out drops at intervals of 1–2 cm is sufficient. To make things neater, you can squeeze the gel onto substrates (pieces of paper, plastic, etc.) and place them at the same distance from each other.

The more severe the cockroach infestation, the more product you need to use. For very large numbers of pests, use one syringe per 3–4 m².

After a few days, you can wash off the gel (remove the papers). However, to ensure the effect lasts, it's best to leave it on for another 2-3 weeks, as new cockroaches may hatch from the eggs and will need to be exterminated as well.

Wash off the gel with water and any detergent.

Security measures

The gel form is one of the safest among cockroach control products. It doesn't evaporate and can't be inhaled, making it virtually impossible to become poisoned when applied. However, insecticides are still toxic if ingested, so some precautions should be taken:

  • Keep the product away from children and away from food;
  • contact with it only with gloves;
  • Do not swallow, avoid contact with skin and eyes;
  • In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse with plenty of water;
  • In case of accidental ingestion or swallowing, seek medical attention immediately.

Impact on humans and animals

As already mentioned, Dohloks poses little danger to humans and warm-blooded animals. It is toxic to cold-blooded animals (fish and reptiles), and it is also highly toxic to bees. However, given that the gel is applied to areas of the apartment away from these animals, there is no need to worry about them.

house ants

The substance fipronil is also used to control other insects, such as ants.

If you have toddlers or active pets in your home, you should take precautions as they may eat the gel.In this case, you need to apply it to hard-to-reach places, or place papers with the product squeezed onto them in places that are out of reach.

Reviews

I bought Dohlox gel and traps from the same manufacturer at the store; they were cheaper than Raid and Combat, and the salesperson said they were selling like hot cakes. I applied the gel around the sink and washbasin, the ventilation system, and tried to reach the pipes in the bathroom and kitchen (they go into the neighbors' floors, so I suspect that's where our guests come from), as well as the baseboards in the hallway, bathroom, and kitchen all around. The consumption was colossal; I used four syringes. A couple of days later, I placed the traps in corners and under the sinks. The results were immediate—we started finding "surprises" in the form of dead and half-dead cockroaches in the morning.

My coworkers recommended Dohloks to me when I'd given up hope of getting rid of these bastards. When I went to the hardware store, I was surprised by the price: 42 rubles for a syringe seemed way too cheap. But of course, I bought two. We applied it in the evening according to the instructions, and the next morning we were already collecting the corpses in a dustpan. A week has passed. Knock on wood, we haven't seen any yet. I recommend it to everyone: it's a gel, odorless, and easy to apply. It's a bit harder to wash off, though. But it's nothing compared to cleaning the shelves weekly to remove cockroach infestations.

Since I work at a kindergarten, cockroaches also occasionally run through there, and I saw colleagues using Dohloks to combat them in the group. I decided to buy the same for our home. So, what is this product? It's a cardboard box with a syringe containing the poison itself. The syringe is really convenient! You need to apply the product in dotted lines to the problematic areas of your apartment. One downside: one syringe wasn't even enough for a room! It wears out quickly. I wanted to spread it thoroughly, but it didn't work; I had to go get more. I also doubt the effectiveness of this poison. It feels more like it's meant to calm the nerves, like, "I applied it, so now everything will be fine." In reality, those cheeky redheads just kept running.

We only applied the product in the kitchen, but the cockroaches in the living rooms stopped running, and in the area where it was applied, they became completely "drunk" and slow. I applied it this way: I unrolled a roll of toilet paper (not the whole thing, of course) and squeezed the product along its length. I placed it on the floor and countertop, away from the edges, as there were plenty of small creatures (cats, children). The number of cockroaches decreased significantly, and this observation lasted for a week.

Dohloks gels, regardless of manufacturer, are effective against cockroaches. They are relatively safe for people and animals. However, be careful where you buy them to avoid counterfeits.
