When to feed a dog: before or after a walk

Dog nutrition, or rather its routine, is directly related to their upbringing. When you first get a puppy, not everyone knows when to feed them: before or after a walk. Mealtimes are a time of close contact between humans and animals. An owner who doesn't know the rules can make some mistakes in shaping their pet's behavior.

How do dogs digest food?

By eating, an animal saturates its body with the vitamins and nutrients necessary for normal growth and vital functions. This process occurs in stages:

  1. Meal.
  2. Mechanical processing of food in the mouth of an animal.
  3. Digestion in the stomach - food is mixed with gastric juice, broken down into energy sources in the form of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
  4. Assimilation of enzymes in the body.

All these stages require energy expenditure, so they are carried out more successfully in a state of rest, when the animal does not experience additional physical exertion.

Feeding the dog

Digestion is a complex and lengthy process.

Basic walking regime

To stay in good shape, dogs need physical activity. Adult dogs need to be walked 2-3 times a day:

  1. The first walk takes place in the morning. It's best to avoid training during the first walk, as the animal's body needs time to wake up. Feeding is possible 30 minutes after the walk.
  2. The second walk, the main purpose of which is active exercise, takes place in the afternoon. After the walk, when your four-legged friend has worked up an appetite, you can feed them again.
  3. The third walk, before bedtime, is carried out at the owner’s discretion.

Walking also has a positive effect on psychological well-being: it has been observed that dogs become sad when they are rarely walked.

Walking and feeding the dog

A daily walk provides great opportunities for developing active contact and training your pet.

Always give food to your animal after you have walked with it. A full stomach will make it more difficult for a dog to move and obey commands, making it more lazy and completely losing interest in training. Furthermore, subjecting your pet to vigorous exercise immediately after eating can stretch its stomach, which will adversely affect its health in the future.

Training a dog

Maintaining a feeding and walking schedule is the basis for successful pet training.

An exceptional case in the feeding regime is the presence of any chronic diseases in the animal: in this case, a veterinarian consultation is required.
