Many owners love to pamper their four-legged friends with various treats. However, table food is harmful to dogs. Yet, preparing tasty and healthy treats is not at all difficult.
Chicken liver cookies
These cookies are a great addition to your dog's main diet. To make them, you'll need:
- 450 grams of liver;
- a clove of garlic;
- 2 chicken eggs;
- 3 cups of oatmeal.
Grind all ingredients through a meat grinder and mix thoroughly. Spread the resulting mixture on a baking sheet in a layer no thicker than 2 cm and bake in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes. Then, let the finished flatbread cool and cut it into small diamonds or squares with a sharp knife. Store this "delicious treat" in the refrigerator. If desired, it can be made ahead of time. In this case, store it in the freezer.
Rye bread croutons
This treat is very simple and quick to prepare. Slices of rye bread are dried at 160-180 degrees Celsius for about 30 minutes, allowed to cool, and stored in a glass jar. This is a good alternative to pits and an excellent preventative measure against tartar formation.
Dried tendons
Beef tendons are available at the market. They consist of elastic connective tissue and are a collection of white, dense fibers. They should be thoroughly rinsed under running water and then baked in the oven for half an hour. Initially, the product is cooked at a temperature of 160 degrees Celsius (320 degrees Fahrenheit), then reduced to 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit). Cooking time is 2-2.5 hours.
Baked chicken or veal liver
Liver is as rich in micronutrients as tenderloin, yet its cost is significantly lower. This healthy, dietary product is quick and delicious to prepare. It contains potassium, iron, zinc, and copper, as well as vitamins A, B, and C. These vitamins and minerals are just as essential for dogs as they are for humans.
Rinse the liver under running water, cut into small pieces, and boil until tender. Adding garlic to the boiling water will give the "dessert" a richer, more piquant flavor. Place the cooked liver pieces on a baking sheet and bake in the oven at 150-170 degrees Celsius for 25 minutes.
Dog treats can, of course, be purchased at a pet store, but homemade ones are cheaper, tastier, and safer.
