Why does a calico cat bring happiness to its owners?

Cats have been credited with magical powers since ancient times. Each culture has its own unique attitude toward these animals, but one characteristic unites them all. A calico cat is considered a good omen throughout the world. Many good signs are associated with it.

A successful combination of happy colors

The combination of red, white, and black in one animal makes its magical abilities immense. Even simply meeting a cat of this color promises good luck. It's important that the coat be tortoiseshell, with no other colors. The color can be one of two variations:

  • calico: red and black with white spots;
  • Harlequin: on a background of white fur there are a few red and black spots.

An animal with this coat color cannot be artificially bred. It is always the result of a genetic mutation, an unpredictable natural anomaly. The most prized color is the "Calico" color. These animals are found among domestic shorthairs and Persian cats.

Interestingly, 99.9% of animals with this fur are female. Male cats are rare and always sterile. However, they are worth their weight in gold. For example, in France, they once fetched a fortune. Local fishermen believed that a ship with a tortoiseshell cat on board would never sink.

Each of the three shades has its own magical meaning.

White is considered the color of purity, freshness, and positivity. In a cat's coloring, it brings peace and harmony to the home and eliminates negative energy. In such a place, there will never be any quarrels between relatives. It protects all family members from negative thoughts and actions, bestows health on children and the elderly, and love and mutual respect on newlyweds.

Black protects the family from negative external influences, such as curses and the evil eye. A cat with dark fur will become a talisman. It has the ability to sense enemies from afar, foresee natural disasters, and ward off life's misfortunes.

Ginger is the color of joy, happiness, health, and money in the home. Thanks to its gold-like fur, this cat brings financial well-being and stability. If the head of the family is engaged in business, it promises success for them as well. Its resemblance to the sun's rays bestows robust health and immense vitality. People who own a ginger cat are less likely to suffer from depression; sadness and melancholy pass them by.

Confirmed by folk wisdom

Rainy England has always lacked bright flowers. Here, calico cats are kept to ensure a constant atmosphere of love and harmony in the family. They are considered protectors against illness and misfortune.

Financial success is seen as true happiness for pragmatic Americans. Therefore, a calico cat is kept here to gain support from higher powers in the difficult task of earning money. It is a powerful talisman, bringing success in business. A home with such a pet will never run out of money. The tortoiseshell cat has even become the official state animal of Maryland.

In Muslim countries, decorating interiors with animal figurines isn't traditional, but live pets are highly revered. Legend has it that a calico cat protects the home from fire.

In Japan, harlequin-colored cats are popular favorites. They are believed to bring financial success, making them highly prized among merchants. If a calico cat sitting in a shop pats its ear twice with its paw, the seller can expect a respectable client. Since these cats are rare, they are sold as a symbol—a maneki-neko figurine. They are placed in establishments that serve customers: stores, souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes, and hotels. If the figurine greets guests at home, it waves its right paw, and if at the entrance to the establishment, it waves its left paw. Maneki-nekos with pearls attract additional income.

In Russia, calico cats are also beloved by the people. It is believed that a "tortoiseshell" cat gets along best with the family's guardian, the domovoi (house spirit). It was the first cat introduced into a new home to appease the family. This superstition dates back to ancient times: the Slavs considered it a good omen if a cat with the same hair color as the head of the family arrived. Calico cats, combining all possible colors, were guaranteed to please the domovoi, for which reason they were revered in Rus'. Together with the capricious and grumpy guardian of the hearth, the cat was supposed to ward off misfortune and ensure the family's prosperity.

Scandinavian fishermen always took the calico with them on board their ships to return with a bountiful catch and protect them from storms. They are kept in homes to ward off evil spirits and prevent household disasters such as fires and gas leaks.

Signs about tricolors

If a calico cat in a businessman's home gives birth to kittens of different colors, it's a good omen. The ginger kitten should be given to a business partner, and the black one should be kept for yourself.

The tip of the turtle's tail is where its magical healing power is concentrated. In ancient times, it was applied to a sore spot while incantations and prayers were recited.

If a cat is viciously tearing at the rug by the front door, you shouldn't trust people who will soon appear on your doorstep too much. You should also avoid lending money, making important deals, or making large purchases in the near future.

If your pet takes a long time to wash itself thoroughly, you should expect guests.

A wildflower that shows up at your home is a sign of prosperity. Driving it away will bring misfortune upon your family.

No matter how the tricolor appeared in a person's home, it brings goodness in any case. Its proximity will contribute to the favorable outcome of all the owner's affairs and endeavors.
