Why does a cat not like to sit in a person's arms?

Why doesn't a cat like to be held? This question doesn't bother many people, as cats generally love to cuddle with their owners. However, there are some animals that don't need to be held to show affection. This behavior is difficult to explain, but it's possible.

Reasons for "incorrect" cat behavior

Sudden changes in your cat's behavior and its reluctance to communicate are a reason to contact a veterinarian.

The entire variety of possible causes of unusual feline behavior can be divided into two parts: a special condition of either the animal or the person. Cats have highly developed extrasensory abilities, meaning they interact with people through their energy field.

Purring, a manifestation of a special feline bliss, usually occurs when petting a pet. Sometimes, hugging a cat or simply allowing it to rest on your lap is enough to trigger the purring. If the energy fields of the cat and human are synchronized during such contact, both participants experience a feeling of bliss and peace.

Why do some cats avoid such contact? Experts believe the following are the reasons:

  • This cat dislikes humans. Physical contact with humans makes the animal uncomfortable. This doesn't mean the cat is an energy vampire. Quite the contrary, it's willing to give its energy to a person in need, which often happens during physical contact. However, extremely aggressive energy is repulsive to any animal.
  • The cat isn't entirely healthy. It's not surprising that these animals often fall ill and die alone. Their already hypersensitive nature is exacerbated by illness, making it difficult to overcome the illness. If the cat was previously affectionate and loved to lie on its owner's lap, but then suddenly becomes unsociable, it's important to visit a veterinarian and at the very least have it checked for worms.
  • Negative experiences. Pets also experience stress, phobias, and neuroses. If a pet in a person's arms experiences severe pain or fear, for example, from a loud noise, they may subsequently avoid contact.
  • Individual characteristics. This refers to the animal's psychological characteristics, determined by genetic information. Among cats, just like among people, there are nervous cholerics and phlegmatics, detached from the hustle and bustle of life. They simply don't need physical contact with humans. In this regard, they are self-sufficient.

These are the main reasons why cats avoid physical contact with humans. However, each pet has its own history with humans, and therefore its own reason for avoiding contact.

What to do

Love and care will help you win your cat's favor.

First of all, it is necessary to say what should not be done. It is impossible to force a cat to be affectionate and purr in a person’s hands. Any coercion will only make the situation worse.

If a cat is sick, it may become affectionate and sociable again after recovery. However, some illnesses can significantly alter an animal's psyche.

A frightened pet can be brought back to health only with tact, affection, and care. But a cat that not only wanders but also lives on its own cannot be tamed (literally). You need to come to terms with the fact that such an independent creature lives next to you.

Respect the individuality of every animal. This will help you establish a harmonious relationship with your pet. And harmony means that everyone who lives near you should be happy.
