Animals living with humans don't have to compete for shelter and food, as they do in the wild. Therefore, unusual friendships often form between seemingly disparate pets. Sometimes, such friendships even occur among wild animals, and they are quite unusual and touching.
Goat and cat
An unusual alliance has formed at a wild animal shelter in Chelyabinsk.
The goat Cleopatra was rejected by the herd and moved to a separate pen. The cat Caesar, however, was a solitary creature, afraid of people, and only came out to feed at night.
It was here that Cleopatra met the cat. Now they share an enclosure and no longer feel lonely.
The Dove and the Monkey
Birds are usually wary of animals, but it seems a macaque and a pigeon have found common ground. In China, a one-year-old monkey was orphaned and one day befriended a pigeon. They've been inseparable ever since.
The Dog and the Lion
Cats and dogs are often considered bad friends, but look at these friends - Bonedigger the lion and Milo the dachshund.
They live at Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma.
A dachshund once acted as a mother to a small lion cub. The lion is now grown, but they have developed a strong friendship ever since.
Kitten and dog
And in this picture, a golden retriever has taken a small abandoned kitten under his wing.
Chicken and puppies
Mabel the hen's unusual friendship with dogs began when she injured her paw and her owners took her home to nurse her back to health. The house also housed a Rottweiler with puppies, and as soon as their mother went out for a walk, the hen decided to take the babies under her wing.
Roscoe the dog and Surai the orangutan
Their friendship began when Roscoe was taken to an animal shelter after being abandoned by his owners. Surai enjoyed playing with the dog, and Roscoe no longer felt lonely. They became true friends.
Chimpanzee and lynx cub
In South Carolina, a two-year-old chimpanzee named Varley befriended a baby lynx. Varley took the little lynx under her wing.
They are inseparable, they spend all their time playing, they even sleep together.
The Dog and the Fawn
A fawn named Pippin, who lost his mother, became best friends with a dog named Kate.
Kangaroo and wombat
Orphaned cubs have found themselves at an Australian wildlife sanctuary. Peggy the wombat and Enzack the baby kangaroo are inseparable.
Cat and agama
The unusual duo of Charles the bearded dragon and Baby the cat proves that interspecies friendship is possible.
The cat hugs and warms the reptile, and the agama calms Baby during a thunderstorm when the cat is frightened by the claps of thunder.
Squirrel and cat
Some children found a tiny, helpless squirrel on the street. They brought it home, but the baby refused to eat, so they placed it with a domestic cat with kittens, who took it in as her own.
Such sweet and touching unions are found among animals of different species.
