Synulox for cats: instructions for use

Sinulox for cats, instructions for use of which are provided below, is a semi-synthetic, broad-spectrum antibacterial drug. It is used to treat animals suffering from infectious diseases.

Composition and release form

The action of the drug is ensured by two main components of its composition:

  • Amoxicillin. A beta-lactam antibiotic based on penicillin, which is pharmacologically similar to ampicillin, but due to differences in molecular structure, it enters the body much more quickly to destroy the infection at the cellular level.
  • Clavulanic acid. An element that has its own activity against bacteria, neutralizes toxins and provides maximum therapeutic effect when combined with amoxicillin.

Sinulox is available in two forms:

  • In the form of round pink tablets of 50, 250 or 500 mg. They are packed in blisters, each containing 10 pieces.
  • In the form of a suspension for subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. A beige, opaque substance with an oily consistency. The product is sold in glass bottles of 40 ml and 100 ml.

The dosage is determined by the attending veterinarian, but the recommended amount of the drug is also indicated in the instructions included in the package with the drug.

Prescription of the drug

Sinulox should only be used to treat bacterial infections, as it is not effective against viruses and fungi.

Indications for prescribing the drug are:

  • respiratory diseases;
  • inflammation of soft tissues caused by the presence of bacterial pathogens sensitive to penicillins;
  • respiratory infections;
  • diseases of the genitourinary system;
  • non-healing umbilical wound in kittens;
  • infectious pathologies of bones and joints;
  • prevention of postoperative complications.

Sinulox combats the cause of inflammation, reduces symptoms, and prevents secondary infections.

Contraindications

The drug has no contraindications for use, except for hypersensitivity of the cat's body to the medicinal components. This reaction can be recognized by excessive salivation and signs of inflammation of the oral and nasal mucosa. In this case, discontinue use of the medication and consult your doctor about an alternative.

Instructions for use

Cat on the scales

The dosage depends on the animal’s body weight:

  • Tablets should be administered at a rate of 12.5 mg per 1 kg of body weight. For pets weighing 3 to 5 kg, one tablet (50 mg) per day is sufficient. The daily dose is divided into two doses and administered after meals.
  • The suspension is administered subcutaneously between the shoulder blades or intramuscularly into the thigh. The dosage is 8.75 mg per kg of body weight. Shake the vial before drawing the medication into the syringe.

The minimum course of treatment is 5 days. The optimal duration is determined by a veterinarian, taking into account the animal's pathology and overall condition. The dosage may be increased in individual cases. The extent and timing of this is also determined by the veterinarian.

It's important to remember that Sinulox suspension is not intended for intravenous or oral administration. It should not be mixed with other medications in the same syringe.

Possible side effects

The cat is sick

The drug is well tolerated by cats, but in some cases reactions from the digestive system are possible, which are manifested by vomiting and/or loose stools.These are explained by changes in intestinal microflora due to the antibiotic's effects. If side effects occur, you should immediately report them to your veterinarian.

The opened bottle should be stored in a dark place where the temperature does not fall below +3º C and does not rise above +25º C. After 30 days, it should be discarded, even if the drug is not completely used up.
