Bars products for flea control in dogs and cats

Even if a pet doesn't go outside, it's still not immune to attacks from dangerous parasites. And if they're regularly taken outside, the risk increases exponentially. Veterinarians recommend Bars products for prevention and control of various types of bloodsuckers.

Bars products: types, pros and cons, selection features

These products are produced by the domestic manufacturer Agrovetzashita. They are designed to combat animal ectoparasites (external) and protect pets from infection:

  • fleas;
  • with ticks;
  • lice eaters.
  • lice.

Some Bars products repel mosquitoes from pets.

The products are presented in the following forms:

  • solutions;
  • drops on the withers;
  • ear drops;
  • antiparasitic collars;
  • sprays.

For the disinfection and deacarization of premises, Agrovetzashchita produces Delgid emulsion concentrates, which are used to treat pets' houses and bedding.

Popularity of Bars products in comparison with analogues

Before entrusting your pet's protection to even the most prestigious product, carefully consider the reasons why veterinarians and experienced pet owners prefer it:

  • high efficiency and broad spectrum of action: the substances included in the composition of insectoacaricides destroy external parasites of various types and prevent infection with new ones;
    A contented cat

    A healthy and protected pet looks contented and happy.

  • long-lasting protection: the products do not require frequent renewal – they remain effective for one to two months;
  • Easy to use: medications are produced separately for each species, age and type of pet, they are strictly dosed and packaged in an easy-to-use dropper;
    A package of Bars drops and dropper pipettes

    Bars preparations are packaged in special dropper pipettes, convenient for use.

  • Minimizing the risk of side effects: packaging and use of the drug according to the instructions eliminate the risk of overdose;
  • Availability: the product can be purchased at any pharmacy at a low price.

Every product has its drawbacks. If the manufacturer claims there are no downsides, the information requires further verification. The disadvantages of using Bars products include:

  • moderate toxicity (3rd degree of danger) - contains insecticides and pesticides, so they are considered exclusively external;
  • the possibility of parasites developing a tolerance to the active ingredients of the products in case of long-term use;
  • the possibility of individual intolerance in the pet in case of an allergy to any of the components of the product.

How to choose the right medication

Bars products are used both for treatment and prevention of external parasite infestations. Instructions for each of them are included in the packaging. When choosing, use three parameters:

  1. Pet type. Products are available separately for dogs and cats. There's even a spray for ferrets and rodents.
  2. Pet's age. Bars Forte is available for kittens and puppies aged 10 weeks and older.
    Bars products for puppies, kittens and dogs

    To eliminate the risk of overdose, Bars products are produced separately for young and adult pets.

  3. Pet weight. Weigh your pet before treatment to determine the appropriate product.

    For dogs, Bars products provide weight restrictions.

Bars drops against fleas

Pet owners are attracted by the product's optimal combination of price, availability, and effectiveness. Its low cost makes it unaffordable for counterfeiters. The drops are an oily, transparent liquid with a yellow tint.

Compound

The product is a synergistic product—all three active ingredients work to destroy and protect against external parasites, enhancing each other's effects. This is why the optimal effect is achieved with a minimal dosage.

Active ingredients in Bars drops against external parasites:

  • fipronil (the dosage directly depends on the intended purpose: for cats - 10 mg/ml, for dogs - 50 mg/ml) - blocks the receptors of ectoparasites (external parasites), which leads to paralysis and subsequent death of the pests;
  • diflubenzuron - 1 mg/ml - the pesticide affects eggs and larvae;
  • Dicarboximide (MGK-264) (for cats - 1 mg/ml, for dogs - 5 mg/ml) - a synergist, i.e. a substance that increases the activity of all components.

Excipients:

  • isopropyl alcohol - 50 mg/ml;
  • polyvinylpyrrolidone - 30 mg/ml;
  • Tween-80–30 mg/ml;
  • nolyethylene glycol 400 - up to 1 ml.

The active ingredients are not absorbed into the bloodstream, but are concentrated in the upper layers of the skin and at the base of the hairs, protecting your four-legged pet from fleas, ticks, and lice for 1–2 months.

Dead fleas

Bars products deal with adult blood-sucking parasites in a few hours, and with eggs and larvae - in a few days

Instructions for use

Please note that the division of drops into cat, dog, and other criteria is not determined by marketing, but by the principles of safe dosage of the drug.

The product contains insecticides and pesticides, so be sure to protect not only your pet, but also your own safety.

Precautionary measures

For the owner:

  • To prevent the product from coming into contact with your skin, use protective gloves;
    Hands in rubber gloves

    Protective gloves will prevent the drug from coming into contact with the skin of your hands.

  • carry out the treatment outdoors or in a well-ventilated area;
  • Do not allow the product to come into contact with food, children's toys or other objects;
  • During treatment, isolate your pet from other contacts.

For your pet:

  • conduct an allergy test: apply one drop to the withers and observe the subsequent reaction;
  • Treat only a healthy pet: it should not have any severe scratches, wounds, or wounds through which drops could enter the bloodstream;
  • two to three days before treatment, stop bathing the animal with pet shampoos and other special products;
    Swimming in open water

    The dog should not be bathed for two or three days before applying the drops, but it can swim in open water - this will not wash off the natural protection from the coat.

  • To avoid licking, put a muzzle on the dog and pick up the cat;
    A dog in a muzzle

    The muzzle will prevent your four-legged friend from licking the applied product.

  • Weigh the animal before treatment to determine the correct dosage of medication.

Operating procedure

The drops are applied to dry, intact skin in areas inaccessible to licking, such as between the shoulder blades or on the upper neck. Treatment is carried out in three stages:

  1. Part the pet's fur to apply the product as close to the skin as possible.
    Apply drops to the withers

    If it is impossible to apply the product directly to the skin, try to apply the drops as close to the hair follicles as possible.

  2. Apply drops of the preparation to the selected areas.
    Pet flea treatment area

    The product is applied pointwise to the treatment areas.

  3. Wait until the preparation dries.

Precautions after treatment

Remember that for half an hour or more your pet will have to be in your company alone, and you will have to make sure that he does not lick himself.

To ensure complete safety, children will only be allowed to cuddle their four-legged friend after 3 days.

To avoid harming your pet's health, please follow these rules:

  • Do not let your pet outside immediately if it is snowy or cloudy outside: let him wait 2–3 hours so that the effect of the drops does not decrease due to immediate contact with moisture;
    Cat in the snow

    Bars drops are waterproof, but if you don't let them dry and soak in completely, they won't work as well.

  • wait at least 3 days before bathing your pet;
  • treat your pet's sleeping area with flea control products;
  • If you have treated several fluffy animals, isolate them from each other until the product has completely dried;
    Cat family

    After the Bars drops have completely dried, pets will be able to communicate with each other as they are used to.

  • Clean gloves and other items that came into contact with the preparation during processing with a cleaning agent.

Use other preventative and parasite protection products only after 10 days of treatment with Bars drops. They can be reapplied after 30 days.

Contraindications and side effects

When choosing a product for your pet, consider all factors, including contraindications. Bars drops for external parasites should not be used if your pet:

  • sick or weakened;
  • has not reached the age of 10 weeks;
    Kitten and puppy

    Young pets can be protected from fleas with Bars Forte drops, but only after they reach 10 weeks of age.

  • pregnant or lactating female - it is important to prevent the drug from entering the body of newborn babies;
    A dog with puppies

    The use of Bars drops is contraindicated for nursing and pregnant four-legged “mothers”

  • weighs less than 2 kg - Bars drops are strictly not recommended for adult dogs of small decorative breeds;
  • has wounds and scratches - do not allow the components of the drug to enter the bloodstream;
  • recently been treated with another drug - the drops cannot be combined with other medications to avoid overdose.

If you have any doubts about the authenticity or expiration date of a medicine, replace it.

Following the recommended dosage and instructions for use minimizes the risk of side effects. However, adverse reactions have been reported in rare cases. If your pet is itching, shaking, or has redness or irritation on the skin, wash the animal immediately using shampoo or any special detergent for animals.

They are washing the dog

The product you use to wash off Bars drops if side effects are detected should not have an insecticidal effect.

If symptoms persist or are accompanied by salivation, tearing, or vomiting, consult a specialist.

To avoid negative consequences, use only the appropriate category of Bars drops to protect your pet.

Features of using Bars ear drops

They are intended for the treatment and prevention of otodectosis (ear mite) in cats and dogs. The disease is caused by Otodectes cynotis, a common mite. A specialist should prescribe the drug and advise on its use.

Ear mites primarily affect cats. Dogs are much less susceptible to infection.

Bars ear drops

Bars ear drops are available in a 20 ml dropper bottle.

Contraindications for the use of Bars ear drops:

  • individual sensitivity to the components of the product;
  • perforation (damage) of the eardrum.

Even if the disease has affected only one of your pet's ears, both still need to be treated.

Directions for use:

  1. Remove scabs and dirt from the ear canal using a cotton swab soaked in the preparation.
    Cleaning the cat's ear

    To pre-clean your pet's ear with Bars ear drops, you can use a cotton swab or a cotton swab.

  2. Place a shallow drop of the medicine into both ears.
    They put drops in the cat's ear

    The dosage depends on the size of the pet: three drops of the drug are enough for cats and small dogs, 4 drops for medium dogs, and 5 drops in each ear for large dogs.

  3. Fold the auricle lengthwise and gently massage at the base so that the preparation is distributed over the entire inner surface.

You may find information that Bars ear drops should be used twice a day for 5-7 days. This is strictly prohibited: reuse should not be done for at least 5 days.

After treatment, the results must be confirmed by analysis. If complete recovery is not achieved, the procedure is repeated. Experienced pet owners report that Bars ear drops are effective against more than just ear mites. The product contains an antiseptic that helps eliminate ear infections and relieve inflammation. If your pet has an individual intolerance to any type of drops, Bars and Bars Forte can be used interchangeably.

Bars flea spray

This is a convenient form of flea medication. Bars line sprays are suitable for protecting your pet from blood-sucking parasites and treating their favorite places in the home. The active ingredient in the sprays is fipronil. It makes up 0.3% of the total composition. The excipients include alcohol, castor oil, glycerin, hydrochloric acid, and distilled water.

Rules of application

The methods for treating pets with sprays and drops are not very different. The precautions are also the same. However, it is worth considering the peculiarities of this form of release: unlike drops, which are already strictly dosed and packaged in dropper pipettes, sprays are produced in bottles with a spray and You need to calculate the dosage yourself.

Dosage calculation

For a 100 ml bottle, one press releases 0.25 ml of product; for a 200 ml bottle, 0.5 ml. The amount of product to use is determined using the formula: 0.25–0.5 ml of spray per 1 kg of pet's weight, depending on the thickness and length of the coat. For example, if the bottle holds 200 ml, one press releases 2 kg of weight for short, sparse coats, or 1 kg for long-haired breeds.

Processing

If there are fish or decorative birds in the room, isolate them. Bars products pose a mortal danger to fish and other aquarium inhabitants.

Aquarium

For hydrophobic organisms, Bars products are incompatible with life.

When treating, hold the bottle strictly vertically and at a distance of 25–30 cm from the pet’s skin:

  1. Shake the can.
  2. Parting the fur, apply the product to the skin. Treat the pet's entire body.
    Treating a dog with a spray

    It is better to treat pets with Bars sprays outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

  3. Wait until completely dry.
  4. Comb your pet.
    Combing a cat

    Combing will allow the product to be evenly distributed over the pet's skin and fur.

When treating areas close to the eyes and ears, cover them with your hand to avoid contact of the drug with the mucous membranes.

Precautions and contraindications

Compared to drops, Bars sprays are considered less toxic—they're classified as hazard class 4. However, don't assume this insecticide is completely safe. All contraindications for flea treatment with drops, including age-related ones, also apply to insectoacaricidal sprays.

According to some data, fipronil does not act on the nervous system of mammals. However, any insecticide is a toxic substance. Therefore, if your pet experiences symptoms such as itching, tearing, increased salivation, tremors, or vomiting, wash off the product immediately and consult a specialist.

Reviews

Agrovetzashchita "Bars" insecticidal acaricidal spray against fleas is the best option for us.

Pros: Protects, lasts a long time, affordable

Disadvantages: after bathing you need to re-treat

We used to have four Staffordshire Terriers. They're not small, and treating them with flea and tick drops was quite difficult. We tried everything, but to no avail—the fleas would just sit quietly away from the withers and then, as if nothing had happened, would roam the entire "territory." We tried a lot of things (drops, sprays, shampoos), some expensive, some not, but to no avail (some simply caused allergic reactions in the dogs—itching and redness). Then one day, a dog trainer we knew recommended the insecticidal acaricidal spray "Bars" (she has German Shepherds, and for a long time she treated them exclusively with "Bars").

We used it before walks to let the spray dissipate—it has a strong, but not unpleasant, lavender-scented odor. It also "escaped" fleas from their prey; immediately after treatment, you could see them jumping out, scurrying, and trying to cling to the very tips of the fur. The spray didn't cause discomfort to the dog; it didn't sting or burn (many drops stung the skin, and afterward, dogs would rub their backs against furniture or roll on the ground to relieve the itch).

The main thing is to avoid getting the spray in the animal's eyes. The Russian company Agrovetzashita produces "Bars" spray; it has a two-year shelf life. The spray can also be used in animal habitats, such as bedding, kennels, etc., as long as the area is well-ventilated. The 100 mg bottle comes with a very convenient sprayer. It lasts for one animal for a year or two (even longer for small breeds, though the shelf life is limited to two years). For us, Agrovetzashita "Bars" insecticidal acaricidal spray is the best option: easy to use, safe for animals, inexpensive (compared to ineffective drops and shampoos), and most importantly, it works. One downside is that the spray is no longer effective after bathing. Our dogs loved swimming in ponds, and after such activities, it's very easy to pick up ticks or fleas.

A very effective remedy!

Advantages: Effectively gets rid of fleas!

Disadvantages: Strong pungent odor.

If you have pets, you're probably familiar with flea and other parasite treatments. We have both a cat and a dog. We meticulously monitor our pets' preventative treatments for fleas, ticks, and other such pests, but despite this, my Labrador brought in fleas from somewhere. Oddly enough, neither regular treatments nor a special collar helped. The worst part was that she brought back fleas that bit me too! I had just returned from the hospital with my baby and for a long time couldn't understand why my legs were so unbearably itchy, until one day I saw this little parasite on me! You can't imagine how shocked I was, because they could have bitten a newborn baby too!

Luckily, they didn't bite the baby, my husband, or the cat. But the dog and I got a fair amount of fleas. I immediately went to the veterinarian and explained my problem to the vet: the dog and I were being bitten by fleas, and they were living in the sofa, and I needed a remedy to get rid of them. The vet recommended Bars spray and told me to spray the dog, the sofa, and the floor around the sofa, then air the area out thoroughly for two hours.

Of course, I did just that, and the next night I slept soundly without the itch of new bites. What a joy! As you can see, the product is very effective, as no more fleas were seen on the dog or the couch, and no one bit me anymore. The nightmare is over! And Bars has remained in our medicine cabinet as a reliable defense against these blood-sucking parasites. In short, if you're faced with this problem, you can safely go for Bars—it's not expensive at all and is readily available! Perhaps the only drawback is its very strong and pungent odor!

Agrovetzashchita "Bars" insecticidal acaricidal spray against fleas is very good for my dog.

Advantages: Effectively removes fleas and other insects from dogs.

Disadvantages: Dogs don't like the smell of this spray and are very resistant to it.

I have a dog, a boxer, weighing about 40 kilograms. He's plump and stays indoors, but God knows where he finds fleas and other insects. Every time he goes for a walk, he starts scratching himself until he bleeds. I had to go to the vet, where they recommended this product, Agrovetzashita "Bars" spray. Well, how we applied it to the dog is a whole other story. Dogs don't like being smeared with anything, but we did this difficult procedure on the ones that had been tormenting him. After running around for a bit, my dog calmed down and started scratching less. The next day, we repeated the procedure, and then about five times.

My boxer has brightened up, is playing like before, and has almost stopped scratching. This spray worked. And after two weeks, he completely forgot about scratching. That's how I got rid of fleas for my friend, a dog. By the way, this "Bars" spray gets rid of not only fleas but also lice, ticks, and other pests. This product isn't absorbed into the bloodstream, so it doesn't affect the dog's health. Therefore, it's completely harmless to dogs. When using this spray, you must observe safety precautions. Apply the spray to the animal in a well-ventilated area, and be careful not to let the spray get into the dog's mouth, eyes, or nose. This spray can also be used on other pets, such as cats.

Insectoacaricidal drops for cats from AVZ "Bars" against ticks, fleas, lice, and biting lice - An extremely important and effective remedy

Pros: Inexpensive, effective

Disadvantages: None

The active ingredient, fipronil, diflubenzuron, and dicarboximide, combats fleas, ixodid and scabies mites, cheyletiella, lice, and lice. The package contains three 1 ml dropper pipettes. Directions for use: part the cat's fur and apply the contents of the ampoule to dry, intact skin at several points on the back between the shoulder blades (where the cat cannot lick the product off). One ampoule usually lasts for six weeks. The recommendations are positive; the product is effective and inexpensive. It should be noted that the product is not absorbed into the animal's bloodstream; it accumulates only in the skin, thereby providing long-term protection against the aforementioned pests. The cost of one ampoule in our area is about 80 rubles. I recommend it.

AVZ "Bars" insecticidal acaricidal drops for cats against ticks, fleas, lice, and biting lice - Didn't live up to expectations!

The fleas are gone, the ticks remain!

Advantages: easy to use

Disadvantages: not effective

We treated the cat at the same time as the dog, but naturally we used different medications, and from different manufacturers. The drops cost about 30 rubles at the veterinary store, and we were sold a single blister pack, without packaging or any instructions. Of course, that's the store's business, and I don't think the manufacturers themselves approved this kind of sales. The blister pack only says "Bars"—insectoacaricidal drops for cats—and the instructions are "apply to the skin along the spine." One dose is enough for a cat weighing 3–8 kg.

The back of the blister is empty. The expiration date is printed at the bottom. To use the drops, cut the tip with scissors at the narrowed end of the blister and immediately apply the product to the animal's skin. To do this, part the animal's fur as much as possible, starting from the shoulder blades and continuing along the spine. As with the dog, I applied the product to the cat's existing parasites—just a few drops, but enough to completely treat the parasite. After treatment, it is recommended not to wash the animal for several days, and naturally, avoid contact with people, especially children.

We left for a couple of days after the treatment, and when we returned, the cat had a small wound at the bite site that was already healing. After the treatment, I didn't remove the ticks myself, trusting the product completely. On a positive note, the fleas disappeared. Since our cat lives in the countryside, fleas are an essential part of our home, but our cat's fleas disappeared after the treatment. The tick issue, however, was more of a mixed bag. They were gone for about five days, but a week later, I found another tick near his face. It would be one thing if it were just crawling, but it was already quite blood-fed and five times larger than the one in the photo above. While I went to get the tick removal kit, the cat ran away.

A few hours later, my daughter found this tick on the floor and called me. What does this mean? I don't understand... Another complaint: my cat's fur has changed significantly. He used to have a luxurious head of hair, but a week after the treatment, his fur lost its volume and he didn't look as luxurious as before. I don't understand the connection either, but the product still makes me wary, as I suspect the cat managed to lick the "Bars" off his fur and ingest it. Should I recommend it? I don't think so; we'll try to find another product ourselves.

Bars Forte insecticidal acaricidal drops for kittens - Liked

Pros: Good product

Disadvantages: I didn’t see any

I bought these drops once when my kitten was little. For our first trip to the dacha. They were effective, as there are a lot of ticks and fleas in our dacha area, but fortunately, none were found on the kitten. There are very few products specifically designed for kittens, so these drops were 100% suitable for us. They didn't cause any allergies, so I don't think there will be any problems. I think there are three ampoules in the box, I don't remember exactly, so it will last the entire summer. As far as I remember, the price is also quite reasonable, but in this case, that's not so important, as long as it works. It's very convenient that you just squeeze it onto the withers and forget about any fleas. It really helped our kitten; he didn't pick up any fleas or ticks. I highly recommend them for kittens three months and older.

Bars Forte Insectoacaricidal Drops for Kittens - Super

Pros: It helps

Disadvantages: not found

Our kitten came from the street and, naturally, was infested with fleas. First, we bought a special shampoo designed to combat fleas, ticks, lice, and other insects. The shampoo is called "Celandine" and is for cats and dogs. The shampoo helped partially; when we were bathing our little one, fleas suddenly started jumping and crawling out. The shampoo smells very nice, and our cat becomes very soft after it, and, as I already mentioned, smells nice! We used this procedure four times, but the fleas were still there (in small numbers, unlike the initial infestation). Then I looked around and found a good flea treatment—a suspension (unfortunately, no photo). We went to the pet store and bought "Bars Forte" flea suspension—for kittens.

It wasn't cheap—90 rubles per ampoule. When we got home, it started working immediately. We opened the suspension and, parting the fur on the withers, applied the drops. BUT, you need to be careful not to let your pet (this applies more to cats than dogs) lick the product off, otherwise, poisoning is inevitable! After treatment, the animal must not be touched for 72 hours (three days) and, accordingly, must not be allowed outside. It must remain indoors with water, food, and a litter box. After three days, the animal needs a bath, after which you can enjoy playing with your pet. Remember that fleas are bloodsuckers and also carry diseases and worms. If left untreated, fleas can be fatal to your pet. If you have children in the house, a kitten with fleas can transmit worms to the children! Good luck in your pet's fight against fleas!

Ear drops for dogs and cats from AVZ "Bars" - Quickly relieve ear itching.

Advantages: The effectiveness of the drug and its cost.

Disadvantages: I haven't noticed any. Ask the cat.

I have a cat at home. I don't take him outside. It would seem he has no contact with other animals and no health problems. Six months ago, I noticed he was scratching his ears a lot. He was literally scratching them until they bled. When I looked, I was shocked. There was a lot of black residue in his ears. I tried cleaning it with a regular cotton swab, but it was unsuccessful. Then I took him to the vet. It turned out he had ear mites. He also had developed an ear infection. I was even more surprised when I heard that people themselves can carry this infection.

So, we don't suffer from this mite, but our pets do. The vet prescribed us Bars ear drops and ear lotion, also from the same company. First, you put 3-5 drops in the cat's ear and massage it. Then remove the plaque. Then apply the drops. Also, 3-5 drops in each ear and massage it. Repeat after 5 days. I won't say that animals like this procedure. My cat is small, but I had a hard time dealing with him. He even tore one of the sheets I was wrapping him in. But after just three treatments, the ears were clean and stopped itching. And the inflammation also went away. Now, as a preventative measure, I only use the lotion once every two months. I'm very happy.

Ear drops for dogs and cats from AVZ "Bars" - Healthy ears for cats and dogs 😉

Advantages: effective drug, inexpensive, easy to use

Disadvantages: Like any product, it should be used with caution.

At the beginning of winter, I encountered ear mites in my youngest Staffy. The condition manifested itself as a characteristic head twitching, and she constantly tried to scratch her affected ear in various ways. Since I'd already encountered a similar problem with our poodle, who had been a member of our family for over 16 years, a veterinary consultation was unnecessary. However! If you have any doubts, of course, you should consult a specialist first. I managed to "catch" the condition as soon as it developed, so the ear was still practically clean, free of the dirty deposits and crusts also characteristic of ear mites. However, before applying the drops, I still treated both ears (although one was bothering me, but it's always better to be on the safe side).

I treated it with a cotton pad and the drops applied to it. Then I put 4-5 drops in each ear, as best I could. I use it once a week; there's no need to use it often. The bottle is convenient. After two weeks, we forgot about the problem. The drops are suitable for both dogs and cats. The dosage should be adjusted according to the animal's size. Also, if your pet is prone to allergic reactions, use the product with extreme caution or only after consulting a veterinarian.

To ensure the joy of spending time with your pets remains unadulterated, don't limit your care to just choosing food and grooming products. Protecting and preventing infestations with dangerous bloodsuckers is an important part of care.
