Profender for cats: instructions for use

Antiparasitic medications for pets are usually available as tablets or oral suspensions, which is not always convenient. Administering medication to a pet is difficult, and in the case of weakened, pregnant, or sick animals, it can be an impossible task. In such situations, topical medications can be used, including Profender for cats. It is important to read the instructions for use, including the indications and contraindications, before using the medication.

Composition and form of release of the drug

Profender drug

Profender is classified as a moderately hazardous substance in terms of its impact on the body.

Profender contains two active ingredients, Emodepside and Praziquantel, which effectively kill the most common parasites in cats – tapeworms and roundworms. Emodepside is a chemical that negatively affects the nervous system of parasites, causing paralysis and death of nematodes. Praziquantel has a similar mechanism of action but is effective against cestodes parasitizing the gastrointestinal tract at all stages of their development.

The drug is a clear, yellow or light brown solution that is applied to the animal's withers. Profender is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream from the site of application and maintains the concentration necessary for a therapeutic effect for a long time.

Profender for cats

Profender is used for the treatment and prevention of diseases caused by tapeworms and roundworms:

  • toxocariasis;
  • dipyloidiasis;
  • Ancylostomiasis;
  • toxascariasis;
  • echinococcosis;
  • taeniasis.

Contraindications for use

unpleasant odor

The drug Profender has a specific pungent odor.

The use of Profender in therapeutic doses does not have a negative impact on the body and does not cause side effects, therefore it can be used during pregnancy, gastrointestinal diseases, and weakened body conditions. The only contraindication to the use of the product is individual intolerance to its components, which manifests itself as redness of the skin and itching at the site of application of the solution. It is not recommended to use the drug in kittens under two months of age and weighing less than 500 g.

Instructions for use

Profender drops are packaged in pipettes with protective caps; the dosage depends on the animal's weight:

  • from 0.5 to 2.5 kg - 0.35 ml;
  • from 2.6 to 5 kg - 0.7 ml;
  • from 5.1 to 8 kg - 1.12 ml;
  • more than 8 kg - the dose is calculated so that 0.14 m of solution is applied per 1 kg of weight.
rinse your eyes of the medicine

In case of accidental contact of Profender with skin or mucous membranes of the eyes, they must be washed with plenty of water.

A significant advantage of this product is its ease of application. To use the solution, remove the protective cap from the pipette and pierce the membrane. The product is applied directly to the pet's skin in areas inaccessible to licking—between the shoulder blades at the base of the neck. Do not bathe or pet the cat for two hours after the procedure, and it is advisable to limit its contact with other animals and children.

For therapeutic purposes, treatment with Profender is carried out once, for preventive purposes - once every 3 months.

The complete elimination period of the drug is 30 days, therefore, for a month after therapy, it is not recommended to use other anthelmintic drugs without a doctor’s prescription.

Possible side effects

Profender for cats

Empty packaging from the medicine Profender is prohibited from being used for household purposes.

Side effects are rare; in cats with increased sensitivity, allergic reactions, redness, and itching are possible, which usually resolve on their own without the use of medication.

If the instructions for the drug are followed, an overdose is impossible, but if too much of the product accidentally comes into contact with the skin, unpleasant symptoms may develop, such as:

  • tremor;
  • vomit;
  • increased salivation.

In such cases, the solution must be thoroughly washed off the animal's skin and taken to a veterinary clinic.

Profender is an effective and convenient product that kills helminths and, when used correctly, has no adverse effects on your pet. However, you should always consult a veterinarian before using it.
