Cockatiels make excellent pets. Their intelligence, beauty, and remarkable ability to speak have earned them the affection of millions of people.
The cockatiel is a bird in the cockatoo family. Wild parrots inhabit Australian savannas and eucalyptus groves. They live in small flocks of 20–30 birds, but during the dry season they can gather in huge flocks.
These are medium-sized parrots, with body lengths ranging from 30 cm to 12 inches. Their distinctive appearance includes a luxurious crest on their head, similar to a cockatoo's, rosy cheeks, and a long tail.
In the wild, gray-colored birds are common. Males are brighter in color than females. In captivity, cockatiels have been bred in a wide variety of colors:
- White color - white feather color, black eyes.
- Albino - white with red eyes.
- Light grey is the most common colour, with grey feathers and red cheeks.
- Yellow color - the color of the birds ranges from dark yellowish to light cream.
- The shacks are grey feathers with white spots on them.
- Black coloration - the body is blackish-gray, the flight feathers are white. The chest is black.
- Cinnamon shade - beige plumage.
Cockatiels quickly become accustomed to people, fly well, and navigate apartment spaces. They easily make friends with other pets, for example, and can even befriend a cat or dog.
In captivity, they live up to 20–25 years. They reproduce well in captivity. The female builds the nest and incubates the eggs for twenty-one days.
Cockatiels are active and playful. To add variety to their pet's time, hang toys in the cage. These parrots love water activities, so a bathtub is a good choice.
Cockatiels are not picky eaters. They eat prepared mixes, cereals, and muesli. They enjoy fruits, vegetables, and grass. Chalk and a mineral supplement are essential in the cage.
Cockatiels remember words and short phrases well. Males are more vocal. If a bird likes a melody, it can learn to sing and dance to it.

It's best to buy Corrells from professional breeders. Buying from a breeder will be slightly more expensive than buying at the market, but the bird will be healthy, with papers and a pedigree.
