Countries with Ridiculous and Strange Dog Laws

In Russia, few people care about animal rights. It's hard to even imagine the sheer number of absurd laws regarding pets that are being passed around the world. Caring for our little brothers and sisters is crucial. But sometimes it becomes absurd.

In Canada

Animal welfare regulations are strictly enforced in Canada, with severe penalties for inhumane or neglectful treatment. However, dogs are not allowed to wear Nike-branded clothing.

Few people in this country keep dogs at home. Not only because they can be a nuisance to neighbors, but also because of the enormous responsibility they place on owners. Stray animals are also virtually nonexistent here.

In the USA

In the US, every state has laws protecting animals from cruelty. In Oklahoma, it's illegal to eat from a dog's bowl, and in Minnesota, people are prohibited from baring their teeth at their pets. In North Carolina, fighting between cats and dogs is prohibited by law.

If your pet "marries" your neighbor's dog in Danbury, Connecticut, you're responsible for either the cost of terminating the pregnancy or paying for the veterinarian who delivered the puppy. In Birmingham, Alabama, it's illegal to tie animals to trees. This is considered cruelty. In Hartford, Connecticut, it's illegal to train dogs. This law is intended to prevent any kind of violence. In Provo, Utah, pets are prohibited from being on the streets after 7:00 PM. In Smithtown, New York, dogs are not allowed to bark for more than 15 minutes. Violations carry a $500 fine for the owner and 15 days in jail for the pet.

In Andorra

The residents of this small state are very protective of nature and animals. They are especially careful with dogs and the rules governing their care.

In Andorra, it's legal to hit someone who loudly scolds their dog on the street. Local law protects not only the dog's life but also its mental health. Hefty fines are imposed for violating pet walking regulations.

In Romania

There are hundreds of thousands of stray animals in Romanian cities. However, animal rights activists have succeeded in passing a law banning their capture and euthanization.

Dogs are treated with great reverence and love in this country. They must not be teased or barked at. You have no right to yell at a dog that is chasing you; all you can do is smile—after all, it's man's best friend.

In Spain

In Spain, owning a dog brings not only pleasure but also serious responsibility. For example, if you have food in your hand and your pet asks for a treat, you are obligated to give it a treat. Otherwise, you could be fined for animal cruelty.

Dogs should not be left alone in the apartment for long periods of time and should not be walked for less than 20 minutes per day. Failure to comply with these rules will result in significant penalties.

All the laws cited in this article do not grant dogs and cats rights, but they are in effect and guarantee them a certain amount of protection.
