I made a cute dog bed from an old sweater in half an hour – my pet is happy

My dog couldn't find a permanent place to rest. And I was tired of cleaning her hair off the armchairs and sofas. So I decided to sew her a soft bed from my husband's old sweater.

Of course, I could buy a ready-made product at a pet store. But, firstly, they're expensive. And secondly, I love sewing and it's always nice to make something useful for the home.

For this work I needed the following materials and tools:

  • an old sweater, preferably a large size;
  • pillow or synthetic padding;
  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • needles.

Description of the process:

  1. I bought a very thick and warm sweater. Make sure the fabric is very thick.
  2. I cut off the turtleneck and set it aside. Don't throw it away right away—you might need it later.
  3. I took a matching thread and carefully stitched up the hole. I also stitched the top of the garment to the width of the sleeve.
  4. I took some synthetic filling and tightly stuffed the sleeves and the top of the pullover with it.
  5. Then I sewed the sleeves to the sides of the “body”.
  6. I filled the inside of the "body" with a pillow. You can also use any synthetic filler for this. The most important thing is to achieve a moderate softness that will ensure your pet's comfort.
  7. I sewed the edges of the bottom together to secure the filling inside.
  8. I joined and sewed the sleeves together. Now we'll need the turtleneck. If you're short on fabric, just use it to compensate.
  9. Having connected all the parts, I checked whether I had secured everything well so that the “filling” did not come out anywhere.

I had barely finished the job when my pets—the cat and dog—started racing to find their new, soft home. Just half an hour of work brought joy to both me and the animals.
