According to scientific data, dogs began being kept as pets approximately two thousand years ago. One of the most ancient dog breeds is the Xoloitzcuintle, which originated in Mexico and is completely hairless.
The breed's unusual and complex name consists of two Aztec words, one of which denotes the name of a deity, and the second translates as "puppy" or "dog".
The ancient Indians firmly believed that these dogs had a special, supernatural gift of healing any disease.
In fact, there is a logical explanation for this: the complete absence of fur and elevated body temperature, as a result of which the “doctors” served as an effective “compress”, especially for the pain of inflamed joints and muscles.
Xoloitzcuintle were endowed with another valuable quality - the role of guide and conductor of the soul in the afterlife.
That is why every Indian strove to have such a dog by his side throughout his life and bequeathed to his relatives to kill it immediately after his death.
