If you love both cats and dogs, sooner or later you'll face the question of how to accommodate them both in your home. Despite the common belief that these animals can't coexist, it's possible. There are seven dog breeds that can easily get along with cats and live together in the same home.
Golden Retriever
This breed was developed in the nineteenth century in Great Britain. Retrievers (Labrador retrievers) are very friendly and affectionate. They get along well with small children and cats. However, it's best to choose a cat that, like a retriever, enjoys active play.
Pug
Another breed that gets along well with all family members, including cats, is the pug. However, be careful—the pug's bulging eyes can attract the attention of an active, playful cat with sharp claws.
Bichon Frise
These miniature, teddy-bear-like dogs are incredibly charming. Even a cat might fall in love with one of these family members. However, the adaptation and socialization of a Bichon Frise to a cat should be approached with caution. Predatory and aggressive cats may bully an otherwise docile dog.
Basset Hound
Basset Hounds, with their long ears and sad eyes, may appear sluggish and extremely calm. But in reality, this breed is quite active. Their friendliness and patience allow them to get along well with other pets. However, due to their phlegmatic nature, overly clingy cats can irritate this dog.
Maltese
Maltese, also known as Maltese lapdogs, are cheerful and active dogs. They are known for their kindness and gentleness towards others. This is why making friends with cats is a breeze for this lapdog.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
They are very attached to their owners and cannot stand being alone. This is why a cat makes a great companion for this dog. They are also very small, weighing only eight kilograms, so even in a conflict situation, a cat can easily defend itself. However, in most cases, they do not harm other cats; on the contrary, they care for them and even try to protect them.
Boxer
Despite their intimidating appearance, Boxers are very friendly with cats. They are very active and playful, so a cat will never be bored in their company. Given their size, it's important to remember that they can unintentionally harm another pet, so they should be trained to play gently with each other from puppyhood.
Of course, this list only includes a few breeds. After all, even the most seemingly incompatible dog breeds can get along with cats.
