The Collie breed became especially popular with Russians after the famous television series "Lassie," about a loyal and intelligent Scottish Shepherd. The filmmakers weren't exaggerating—these dogs possess a whole host of positive qualities.
These dogs were once herding dogs, helping Scottish shepherds herd their sheep. One day, the Queen saw them and ordered them brought to England. There, the breed took root, and by 1860, these dogs were exhibited as Scottish Shepherds.
Today, collies come in several colors. The most common is sable, in which the animal's coat is light golden and white, but can be red or fawn, with black tips.
Marbled color - the fur on the back and tail has a bluish tint.
Tricolor - black fur with red spots, white chest.
Collies are highly trainable, good with children, and also make reliable guard dogs. Their coats are beautiful, but they require proper grooming.
The Collie is deservedly considered a family dog; it is equally attached to adults and children and is always ready to protect them.
