We Definitely Can't Afford Them: The World's Most Expensive Animals

Some wealthy individuals prefer to spend exorbitant sums not on real estate or luxury yachts, but on unusual pets costing tens of thousands of dollars. These are typically rare breeds of dogs, horses, or cats.

Tibetan Mastiff, up to $585,000

The Tibetan Mastiff is recognized as the largest dog breed in the world. Visually, it resembles a large and dangerous lion. Mastiffs were originally guard dogs and were used to protect monasteries in Tibet. They were responsible for protecting livestock, homes, and even entire palaces.

Nowadays, it's extremely difficult to find a purebred Tibetan Mastiff puppy. Therefore, such an animal will cost a pretty penny. For example, in 2011, the last purebred specimen of this breed sold for $1.5 million.

White Tiger, $140,000

White tigers were first discovered on the eve of World War II in 1938. At the time, they were extremely rare in the wild. The cause of this unusual coat and eye color was a color mutation first observed in the Timbavati Game Reserve.

Scientists concluded that the cubs' white coat was caused by recessive genes from their parents. Currently, there are approximately 300 white tigers in existence, with each fetching approximately $140,000.

Arabian horse, $100,000

The Arabian horse is recognized as one of the purest breeds. It possesses intact genes, which distinguishes it from other horses with its ideal athletic build, luxurious long tail, and arched back. This sets it apart from other breeds.

Beyond its appearance, the Arabian horse impresses with its speed, tenacity, and endurance. The price of a single stallion is approximately $100,000.

Bichon Lyon Dog, up to $30,000

Since the 13th century, these small decorative dogs have graced portraits of royalty. Over time, their popularity waned, and after World War II, virtually all members of the breed were lost.

In ancient times, they were used as hot water bottles for ladies of the court, who kept their pets close to them at all times. Nowadays, they serve exclusively as decorative companion dogs. Their unusual appearance makes them an attractive show dog.

There are only a few breeders of this breed in the world. Therefore, purchasing a puppy is only possible by prior reservation. Bichon Lyons require high-quality and expensive care.

Ashera cat, up to $25,000

The breed was introduced in 2007. Named after the Canaanite goddess Asherah, it is rightfully considered one of the largest cat breeds, reaching up to 1 meter in length and weighing up to 14 kg.

The Ashera cat was claimed to be a cross between a Bengal, a domestic cat, and an African serval. However, DNA testing revealed that the Ashera is a Savannah breed, developed back in 1980.

The scammers decided to present them as a new breed to impress. They succeeded. The kittens sold for huge sums. But Savannah breeders quickly recognized their creation and exposed the scammers.

It's important to understand that having a pet isn't a toy or a way to prove your status. Regardless of their cost, they all need care and love.
