Few people can resist the soft gaze of a pug's large, black eyes, framed by fine wrinkles. Pugs have very expressive facial expressions, a docile nature, and a compact size, making them excellent apartment dogs. There are several other dog breeds that can easily be mistaken for pugs.
American Lo-Shi
This small dog stands no more than 21 cm at the withers. It's a good-natured and calm animal, very similar in appearance to a pug. The difference lies in its more varied coloring and shorter legs. Lo-shis don't particularly enjoy long walks or active play, so they are often housetrained. Dogs of this breed are a bit sloppy and clumsy, but this is endearing.
Petit Brabancon
This dog's appearance can be confused with a pug, with its similarly flattened muzzle and large eyes. The breed is known for its cunning and stubbornness, and it has a rather complex personality. It is suspicious and aggressive of strangers, but once you earn its trust, it becomes an excellent companion. The Brabancon's coat is short and wiry. This dog enjoys active walks and play.
Pekingese
The Pekingese is an ancient toy breed developed for Japanese emperors. Unlike pugs, it has long hair but the same flattened muzzle and button eyes. Pekingese require constant attention and affection; they consider themselves the dominant dog in the family and demand appropriate behavior. A common problem with the breed's eyes is eye care, so special attention should be paid to their care from puppyhood.
French Bulldog
The French Bulldog closely resembles the Pug, but has a stockier build and a stubborn nature. French Bulldog owners claim that their dog can sense their owner's mood and even support them in difficult situations. Their skin folds require regular brushing. French Bulldogs are lazy and dislike long walks. They enjoy being the center of attention, but they don't push themselves.
Chihuaps or chops
This relatively new breed was created by crossing a Chihuahua and a Pug. This dog is very charming, with a disproportionate body, a large head, and cute, fluffy ears. The Chops is very friendly, sociable, and in excellent health. Like all dogs with folds, it requires grooming.
Boston Terrier
Another breed reminiscent of the pug. Owners value it for its excellent watchdog qualities: although the dog is very friendly, it will always alert its owner if it senses danger. This is a very energetic and strong animal that loves play and walks. Grooming involves cleaning the coat and facial wrinkles.
