There are families where cats don't stay for long. Regular loss of a pet prompts owners to suspect a pattern, and they begin to search for reasons. So why do some families' cats live for 10-15 years, while others don't?
Brownie
The most common theory is that a brownie is playing tricks. A time-honored belief holds that cats and brownies never get along. Simply put, some spirit objects to the presence of these animals in the home and therefore tries in every way possible to drive them away or, even worse, to harm them.
Every mystical forum offers countless tips for this problem. And if you're not a die-hard skeptic, why not give them a try?
Folk wisdom advises simply befriending the brownie. This can be done through a kind of "bribe," exemplary behavior, and a request to spare the pet's life. Instructions on how to offer a "tribute" to the brownie can be found on the same forums.
However, it's worth noting that the problem may not be limited to the brownie. There may be more serious "ill-wishers" in your home that you can't see. Spirits and clusters of negative energy can also trigger the loss of a pet. But first things first.
Other superstitions
There are many different superstitious beliefs that suggest a pet might leave the house. Some people distrust them, while others confirm their reality. Here's just a small list of such beliefs:
- The animal sensed that a serious illness or death of one of the family members was approaching.
- The family is expecting a new addition (or is about to announce pregnancy). The cat is supposedly making room for the new arrival.
- There's an air of black magic in the house. This doesn't mean one of the owners is practicing witchcraft. Quite the opposite, it means the family has been subject to external influences (hexes, the evil eye, etc.).
- A powerful curse cast on its owner. In this case, if the cat disappears, it's believed to have taken on all the "darkness" intended for its owner.
- Another popular explanation is the absence of children. That is, if a family is unable to have children, most of them get a pet (especially a cat). And because they treat the animal as their own child, "God takes the child because it is not given to have one." This theory seems absurd, but nevertheless.
Signs suggest that your cat is leaving. The cat may become anxious, refuse food, lose weight, and sleep very little (constant agitation). In such cases, a house cleaning is recommended. After all, all these signs indicate that your pet is worried about something... or perhaps someone?
Rational explanation
In fact, like any phenomenon on planet Earth, there is a rational explanation. So if you're a staunch skeptic and don't accept the esoteric and mystical side of things, rejoice! Below is a list of logical and understandable explanations.
The cat got lost
Unfortunately, not every cat has good spatial awareness. Some (especially quiet, indoor cats) can get lost just a couple of blocks from home. This can happen if the cat is chasing a butterfly or running from a dog.
Another perfectly acceptable explanation is that the animal is going into heat. As for what happens next—loss, death, or theft—we can only guess.
Bad treatment
Many cats are extremely sensitive, as strange as it may seem. While some will tolerate their owners' yelling and scolding their entire lives, others will leave after the first raised voice.
If the room is dark and damp, it will be a perfect breeding ground for a large number of microorganisms. Many of these microorganisms carry various diseases. Cats should not live in such a home for safety reasons.
The pet was stolen
This is another downside to "free-range" pets. It's important to understand that you don't have to live in a private home for someone to take your cat. Pets are stolen just as often in the entryways and near apartment buildings.
You may have noticed one important connection across all of these points. Whether the underlying reasons for your pet's departure are rational or not, they all share the same fundamental fact: an animal will never live in a home where it feels unhappy and uncomfortable.
