The cat, who was hit by a car, had his hind legs amputated and was given titanium plates.
A cat named Pooh, like many of his fellow cats, loved to be active: walking, playing, and chasing birds. But Pooh was hit by a car, severely injuring his hind legs. He barely had the strength to reach the nearest house. There, he was spotted by people who called the veterinarian. Often, in such cases, animals are euthanized.
The veterinary clinic decided to amputate the damaged paws and replace them with titanium implants. This type of surgery is extremely rare; only a few have been performed worldwide.
The prosthetics were custom-made for Pooh. They were implanted in his bones and covered with sheaths that needed to be replaced periodically. Doctors were very concerned that the cat wouldn't accept his new limbs. But Pooh got used to them within a couple of days and returned to his normal, active life.
Now the pet runs, jumps, and even stands on his hind legs with ease. Pooh is currently in an animal shelter in Sofia, Bulgaria. However, we hope that he will soon find a home and a loving owner who will care for him. Veterinarians believe that the surgery will serve as a good example for other doctors, and that animals who have lost limbs will be able to walk again.
