5 Unconventional Ways to Use Cat Litter Around the House

Litters vary in composition, scent, and granule size, and are completely safe for humans when used externally. Therefore, they can be safely used in everyday life.

As drainage for flowers and plants

Plants often die from overwatering or, conversely, from insufficient water. Porous zeolite will absorb excess moisture or release it if the soil becomes too dry.

Just before planting, mix the soil with two tablespoons of fine granules. Choose an absorbent whose particles turn into a paste when soaked overnight.

Only filler with large grains is suitable for drainage; it should be laid together with soil and expanded clay as follows:

  1. Pour 1.5 cm of expanded clay into the bottom of the pot.
  2. Then make a layer of zeolite filler 1 cm thick.
  3. Add soil and plant the plant.

This way, excess water will not flow out onto the windowsill or stagnate in the soil near the roots when watering.

As a means of preventing glass fogging

During cold weather, windows in your home and car fog up heavily, creating a damp feeling. To eliminate this, place a handful of any cat hygiene product in cloth bags or newspaper envelopes and place them along the windows. The moisture will disappear, along with any unpleasant odors.

In the fall and winter, you can sprinkle a small amount of powder under your car floor mats, changing it every three days. It will absorb water droplets from wet shoes, preventing damage to your car's upholstery.

As an absorbent for shoes

In hot, rainy weather, or during sports, shoes become damp inside, developing an unpleasant, pungent odor. To eliminate these problems, try the following:

  1. Dampen a clean cloth with hydrogen peroxide and wipe the entire inside surface of the boots or sneakers.
  2. Wrap the filling in a thin cloth (napkin or gauze) and place one in each pair. You can also add a drop of lavender, lemon, tea tree, or juniper essential oil directly to the granules for a fragrant effect.
  3. Leave the shoes in a warm place for 4-5 hours, and then take out the packages.
  4. Finally, you can additionally treat your shoes with a suitable anti-odor and anti-sweat spray.

For quick drying of flowers

To quickly dry leaves and flowers when creating dried flower bouquets, you need:

  1. Place a 1 cm layer of silica gel filler on the bottom of the box.
  2. Place flowers on top.
  3. Sprinkle with another thin layer of powder, and then tightly close the container with a lid or cover with film.
  4. After 6-7 days, carefully remove the dried flowers.

This method allows the structure of plants to be preserved due to the slow dehydration process.

As a filler for soft toys

If you're sewing soft toys, you can use cat litter instead of synthetic padding or cotton wool. Wood or silica gel litter is best—they're softer—and zeolite litter can be added for added volume.

These toys are safe for children, but you can't wash the entire thing—you'll have to shake out the contents and change them.
