Many people believe that cats are more independent than, say, dogs. In fact, we greatly underestimate cats. Having lived in a human home for a long time, pets can recognize their owner's mood and even adapt to it.
Cats understand nonverbal cues
Cats don't understand human speech well, but they don't need to, as they are excellent empaths. Thanks to this trait, pets always understand how their owner is feeling. For this reason, cats often come to "pity" a crying person and try to hide if a fight breaks out in the house.
Knowing a person's mood doesn't just help a cat adapt to its surroundings. If a cat has lived with a person for a long time, its mood begins to change along with its owner's: if you're sad, the cat will be sad too; if you're happy, the pet will be more active.
Cats constantly watch their owners
Everyone knows that cats are true predators. They can stalk their prey for long periods of time while remaining completely undetected. So, just because your pet is busy with their own business doesn't mean they're unaware of what you're doing.
By constantly observing, cats learn to distinguish and remember nuances in your speech, gestures, actions, and even facial expressions. By understanding the characteristic behavior of their owner depending on their current state, cats learn to react appropriately to the situation. This is why they know exactly when to beg for a treat, when to offer a game, and when to simply cuddle.
Your cat is monitoring your emotional state.
A cat's well-being depends largely on your emotional state, something they're well aware of. So, even if you don't notice, your pet is constantly monitoring your mood. But that's not all.
Some cats can develop a genuine attachment to their owners, especially if they've been with them for a long time. For this reason, the animal feels much more comfortable when the person feels comfortable too. This attachment can manifest itself in intense attention: the cat waits for the person to come home from work and never leaves their side when they return home. These pets truly care about their owner's mood.
Of course, not all cats are the same. Some are more sensitive to their owner's mood, others less so. But all cats, without exception, are perfectly aware of the intentions of the person in front of them. Therefore, a pet will always sense whether you are being aggressive or friendly toward it.
