Tick repellents have become an essential companion for humans. After all, protection from parasites is essential for anyone heading out into the forest to pick mushrooms, fish, or simply relaxing in nature. Ticks are arthropods that pose a health hazard, and in severe cases, even a life-threatening threat. A single bite can cause a serious illness, leading to complications, disability, or death.

Moskitol products against street ticks and how they work
The entire variety of anti-tick products is divided into groups according to their method of action:
- Acaricides help kill parasites. They have a nerve-paralytic effect, resulting in the death of the insects. These tick-repelling products should not be applied to the skin, as they contain toxic components. Acaricides are used to treat clothing and camping gear.
- Repellents have a repellent effect because they have an unpleasant odor. Repellents can be sprayed on both equipment and skin—either way, the product prevents ticks from attaching to the body and feeding on blood.
- Combination insecticides are insecticides with repellent properties. These products kill ticks attached to clothing and also repel mosquitoes and other flying insects.
When it comes to choosing the best tick repellent, one option worth considering is the specialized brand Moskitol.

The brand's product line includes repellents designed to kill ticks:
- MOSQUITALL "Tick Protection" — acaricidal repellent products specially designed to eliminate parasites and repel mosquitoes and other insects. These products are designed for outdoor activities and are available in two forms: spray and aerosol.
The spray provides longer protection due to the higher concentration of the active substance.
- MOSQUITALL "Gentle Protection for Children" is a line of products designed specifically for children, including a wide range of products to combat bloodsuckers and flying parasites. Children's bodies are more sensitive to external irritants than adults, and even more so to insect bites. Therefore, to ensure little ones are protected from this scourge, professional, super-safe, yet particularly effective products are needed. The "Gentle Protection for Children" line protects little ones from ticks and harmful insects during walks, naps, and sleep.
Review of Moskitol tick repellents
Summer! There's no escape from mosquitoes, And there's no "DEET" in the stores - Donors are held in high esteem here.
The Russian company Biogard markets its line of products under the Mosquitall brand. The company specializes in cosmetics, perfumes, detergents, and other chemical-based products.
Today, three Mosquito products against ticks can be found on the shelves: MOSQUITALL "Tick Protection" spray, MOSQUITALL "Tick Protection" aerosol, and MOSQUITALL "Gentle Protection for Children" aerosol.
The bottle may be yellow or green in the series for use by adults in the wild, but for children, the can is most often a soft blue color, although the manufacturer periodically changes the color scheme of the packaging.
The spray bottle from the "Tick Protection" series contains 100 ml of product, while the baby spray bottle holds 150 ml. The dispenser is sensitive to pressure and sprays the product instantly. The Moskitol tick repellent bottle seals securely, is leak-proof, and takes up very little space in any bag or backpack.
Moskitol tick repellent protects against all types of forest and taiga ticks, including those that infect encephalitis, outdoors. The product acts on the nerves and respiration of arthropods, paralyzing them. Even if the parasite manages to reach exposed skin, it will still die before it can harm a person. Moskitol's tick repellent also affects other bloodsuckers, such as mosquitoes, midges, and sand flies.
At the same time, this product doesn't damage the appearance of clothing or leave greasy stains where sprayed. Treated items retain their repellent properties for a long time, eliminating the need for a second treatment. The manufacturer promises the product's protective effect will last for 15 days if stored in a tightly sealed bag, and for 5 days if worn daily. However, travelers and hikers typically wash their clothes immediately after returning home. Therefore, before a new hike or trip to the countryside, you'll need to re-treat all necessary items.
It's important to know that ticks typically prefer the groin, abdomen, and armpits. They can also attach to exposed areas of the neck, thighs, and behind the ears. Therefore, it's important to select protective clothing that protects these vulnerable areas.
Once you have decided that you need to use Moskitol against ticks, follow these steps:
- Take clothes that need to be sprayed with an anti-parasite product out into the fresh air, or open the windows wide in the room where the treatment will take place.

- Anti-tick suits are designed to protect people from tick and blood-sucking insect bites.
- The suit is designed for use in active recreation or hiking.
- Jeans can also be used as protection against ticks after proper treatment with a special preparation.
- An ordinary shirt, after being properly treated with a special product, will help protect against ticks.
- Before use, shake the can for two to three seconds.
- Hold the bottle at arm's length and position it with the opening facing the clothing, so that the spray is directed directly downwind. Use aerosols from a distance of 20–25 cm from the surface being treated, while sprays should be used closer—10–15 cm.
- Spray Moskitol tick repellent onto clothing and other fabrics until they are slightly damp. Spraying pants and shirts should not take more than two minutes. Spray in circular motions or in stripes.
- Be especially careful to apply the anti-tick product to seams, folds and other areas.
- Dry all treated items of clothing beforehand and wear them over underwear to reduce skin contact. After the repellent effect wears off, and of course, after washing, treat the clothing with Moskitol tick repellent again.

- It is important to spray the seams and pockets on the chest
- Spray the folds on your hands
- Finish the zipper and the seam at the neck
- Look carefully at the seams and pockets on your trousers.
- Be especially careful to apply tick repellent to the seams and elastic bands near the feet.
It is important to take precautions when using MOSQUITALL tick control products:
- Avoid spraying near sources of fire or hot objects, as the product is highly flammable.
- Treat items away from people, outdoors, or in a well-ventilated area. Moskitol has a distinct chemical odor that's noticeable when sprayed. After treatment, the dried items no longer have this strong odor.
- Although other instructions recommend spraying some tick-repellent products directly onto the skin, doctors recommend using Moskitol exclusively on clothing and only after the person has removed it.
- You should not wear items sprayed with Moskitol against ticks until they are completely dry.
- You need to dry your clothes outside for at least two hours.
- Spray the product carefully, avoiding splashes on plastic or varnished surfaces, as even a few drops can damage the product's appearance.
- When using Moskitol tick repellent, be careful not to allow any spray to come into contact with your skin, mouth, or eyes. If the product does come into contact with your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with running water immediately.
Today, Moskitol anti-tick preparations may include the following chemical components:
- Diethyltoluamide, commonly known as DEET, is a white, semi-liquid, paste-like active ingredient with a strong, sweet odor. DEET is an active ingredient found in most personal insect repellents classified as Class III and IV. DEET can be used by adults and children, but only in strict accordance with the instructions on the spray label. The percentage of DEET in antiparasitic products affects the duration and effectiveness of their action—low concentrations will not provide adequate protection against ticks and some insects. DEET content can range from 4% to 50%.
- Alphacypermethrin is a component used against a wide variety of insects. This substance has a relatively long-lasting effect, killing the parasite regardless of its developmental stage. Like other substances in this group, alphacypermethrin blocks the nervous system, leading to paralysis and subsequent death of the parasite.
- Isopropyl alcohol is a highly flammable and moderately toxic component that has disinfectant, preservative, and cleaning properties.
- Triethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid with a sweet taste; it's essentially an alcohol-based product. It's used as a substitute for water because alcohol doesn't soak through clothing. Water-based products are typically used for children.
- Denatured ethyl alcohol is also used as a solvent and cleaning agent.
- Propylene glycol is needed to dissolve synthetic components; the active ingredient dissolves well in it and is therefore sprayed evenly.
- Citric acid - aromatizes, disinfects, helps repel insects and has a lethal effect on them.
- Fragrance is added simply to give a pleasant aroma.
- Ozone-depleting propellant is required in all aerosol cans to maintain the required pressure and ensure the product is sprayed well.
Today, there are products that are positioned as safer – instead of DEET, they are based on icaridin and IR 3535.

Features of choosing Moskitol against ticks for pregnant women, nursing mothers and babies
Infections transmitted by tick bites threaten the health of a pregnant woman and her baby—one of the many complications can be miscarriage. Therefore, it is important to choose an effective and safe remedy against ticks for both.
Regarding the issue of nursing mothers and their children, it can be said with certainty that there is no risk of transmitting a bacterial infection through mother's milk to the child. The causative agents of bacterial tick-borne infections—Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis—are transmitted to humans only through a tick bite.
However, the outlook for tick-borne encephalitis is less positive. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in this case, the bacteria can be transmitted to the baby through breast milk. Therefore, an infectious disease specialist will decide whether to discontinue breastfeeding.
Therefore, it's crucial to find a safe and effective antiparasitic medication for your child. For example, some mothers spray their children with essential oil-based repellents to repel ticks. This is completely pointless when it comes to ticks.
However, spraying yourself and your children with mosquito repellent in the hopes of repelling ticks is definitely not allowed. A tick exposed to mosquito repellents becomes overexcited. The parasite no longer crawls calmly and deliberately over the human body, seeking a better spot and giving the person a chance to spot and shake it off. The agitated insect attaches itself to the body in any nearby spot and dies inside, causing harm to the child's body.
The safest and most reliable remedy against ticks is a professional, specially developed product. It's important to remember that tick repellents should not be sprayed directly onto the skin; they can only be applied to equipment. There simply haven't been any tick-repellent products developed yet that would be completely harmless when in contact with human skin. However, if a child or a pregnant or breastfeeding woman still needs protection from ticks by spraying their clothes with Moskitol, then other family members should also treat their clothes to avoid inhaling harmful components.
When choosing tick repellents, it's important to consider the child's age and carefully read the packaging for instructions and ingredients. However, even following these guidelines doesn't guarantee that the child won't experience complications from the product.
According to international recommendations, when choosing a tick repellent for children, it is preferable to choose products with a DEET content of 30–50%. However, products with a DEET content of 20% are considered effective only against mosquitoes, not ticks, and products with a DEET content of 50% or more are very harmful to children.
Various manufacturers indicate on the label that repellents containing DEET can be used to protect children aged two months and older, as well as pregnant and nursing women, as products with a lower concentration of the active ingredient have been developed for them. Pediatricians strongly advise against using tick repellents on children—despite manufacturers' advertising, tick repellents are still very toxic for children. According to doctors, the best way to protect a child under three from tick bites is through parental caution. Before attaching, the parasite spends a long time crawling all over the body, seeking the most comfortable spot. Therefore, regular checkups of your child outdoors can help prevent problems.
The Moskitol brand has created one aerosol product in its "Gentle Protection for Children" series suitable for protecting children from mosquitoes and ticks. However, given expert opinions on the active ingredient content of this product, it appears to be completely useless against ticks. However, some parents claim that the product does repel ticks. Each individual must make their own decision.
The thing is, I often have to go to the countryside with my children to help with harvesting grass and picking mushrooms. Therefore, I always prepare thick suits and some kind of insect repellent beforehand. Both children's and adults' clothing is always sprayed according to the package instructions. Collars, cuffs, and hats are always treated.
So far, not a single tick has been found. However, after 2-3 hours of being outside, the trouser cuffs were treated again to be sure. Meanwhile, the product has a pleasant smell, and Moskitol is used even when simply working in the garden. Ticks and mosquitoes don't bother either adults or children. The village area is also teeming with biting midges, which fly in swarms in the evenings. Moskitol "Gentle Protection for Children" mosquito and tick repellent is completely ineffective against these insects. The manufacturer, however, makes no promises. Of course, clothes are not put away in a plastic bag after the trip; they are washed and treated again before the next outing. From personal experience, it's clear that to find the right tick repellent, you'll have to try several options. Some may not work for you at all, while others will immediately meet your expectations.
Reviews
Moskitol Special Tick Protection Aerosol is a convenient product that can be used even by pregnant women and small children. Pros: Suitable for everyone, repels both ticks and mosquitoes. Cons: None found. This year, according to medical experts, has once again broken records for the number of tick bites. Vaccinations against tick-borne encephalitis are not recommended for everyone, and this vaccine will not protect against Lyme disease, which is also carried by ticks. Therefore, any trip outdoors, even to the dacha, carries a significant risk. Furthermore, mosquitoes and midges eagerly await our visit to their territory. Therefore, repellents are our everything. In our family, we have special requirements for them – they must be suitable for small children and nursing mothers.
I was recommended Moskitol Anti-Tick at the pharmacy—now I recommend it to everyone. Firstly, it's suitable even for pregnant women: it's applied to clothing, not skin. Secondly, it's dual-action: it kills ticks and repels mosquitoes and midges. Thirdly, it's cost-effective: the effect lasts all day. The manufacturer claims the effect lasts 10-15 days, but you're unlikely to throw your clothes in a plastic bag instead of the washing machine after a trip to the dacha. Fourthly, the smell isn't offensive, which is rare. We liked it, and I hope it helps others. Year of use: 2012. Cost: 130 rubles. Overall impression: A convenient product that can be used even by pregnant women and small children.
Mosquitol Special Tick Protection Aerosol – It really only repels ticks! Pros: It really only repels ticks! Cons: It doesn't repel mosquitoes! Protecting against mosquitoes, ticks, and bloodsuckers is a hot topic right now, summer is just around the corner. It's so cool to have this three-in-one product. I wrote about Reftamide. We somehow missed the boat and bought the Mosquitol Tick Protection Aerosol. I was just sure it would also protect against mosquitoes. It's a yellow-green bottle, like the Mosquitall tick aerosol. The bottle says to apply it to clothing only. And it specifically repels ticks, with protection lasting up to fifteen days. I can't speak to that. I wonder if that even happens! It was only when I brought it home that I read that this aerosol kills ticks but only repels mosquitoes and bloodsuckers.
I thought, well, at least it repels mosquitoes. Apply it ten to twenty centimeters from clothing in a ventilated area or outside. We always apply it outside. Well, what can I say, we sprayed it on and went for a walk in the park. Our park is actually treated for ticks, so I was actually more interested in how it would repel mosquitoes since we have such an aerosol. At first, it seemed like it repelled them, but it was just my imagination.
Literally twenty minutes later, mosquitoes were literally biting us. We sprayed again and again, with the same near-zero result. So, I'll say this: it may protect against ticks for fifteen days, but it definitely offers zero protection against mosquitoes. I would definitely recommend the Moskitol special tick protection aerosol; it clearly says "FROM TICKS" right there! You need to buy a different mosquito repellent! A 100-milliliter bottle costs 170 rubles. Usage time: several times. Cost: 170 rubles. Year of manufacture/purchase: 2014. Overall impression: It really only protects against ticks!
I saw this spray at the pharmacy when tick season had begun. I'm terrified of them, especially since they carry terrible diseases, so I decided to protect myself as much as possible. This product, according to the manufacturer, "kills ticks and repels mosquitoes and blood-sucking insects." The instructions say to spray it on clothing from a distance of 10-20 cm in a ventilated area or outdoors. So, I thought, this must be a really powerful product. I followed the instructions. The scent is certainly strong and would have definitely repelled me, but apparently it doesn't work much on blood-sucking insects. I went out into the countryside, fully protected, but the mosquitoes didn't know it and ate their fill... so I don't know what it kills and repels there, but I came back covered in mosquito bites, they were eating me right through the treated clothes. There is also a note on the bottle that says “Up to 15 days.” What did they mean by that? It doesn’t even last three hours. I wasted money, even though it was small, which is a shame :(
The developers of Moskitol brand products have worked hard to create effective tick repellents. However, it's important to understand that no matter how effective a tick aerosol or spray is, reliable protection against these dangerous bloodsuckers can only be achieved with the right equipment. Protect yourself and your loved ones from parasites and enjoy your vacation.
