Finding a pet that's right for every family member, including children, is a challenging task. It's important to consider the desired dog breed's personality, heredity, friendliness, and ability to handle children. It's best to choose breeds that were bred specifically for children and have a gentle, docile nature and a good-natured disposition.
Bichon Frise
This dog breed is better known as the French lapdog. Bichons have a thick, white, curly coat that requires careful grooming, including regular clipping and bathing. Their maximum height at the withers is up to 30 cm, and their body length is 15-30 cm.
Even as small dogs, they love to move around, play active games, and go on long walks outdoors. Representatives of this breed not only get along well with children but are also friendly with other pets. Importantly, they don't require overprotection or excessive attention during training, as they are intelligent and obedient. Another advantage of Bichons is that they don't shed, and their fur is completely hypoallergenic.
They can truly be considered "universal" dogs, because over the course of their thousand-year history, they have served in a variety of roles: as rat-catchers on ships in the 11th and 12th centuries, as decorative dogs for King Francis I, and as assistants to peasant families in France.
Beagle
The Beagle was bred as a hound, or hunting dog. This background has given this dog an energetic, playful nature and a constant need to play. Beagles love to play with a ball or Frisbee.
He's incredibly charming and captivates literally everyone who wants to meet him. For this reason, he's not a good guard dog, but he's a wonderful companion, a favorite with children, and a true friend to any adult. Beagles can sometimes be overly assertive and stubborn, so you need to be firm in training your puppy to avoid problems later.
This hound's size makes it suitable for even a small city apartment. Minimal grooming is required for its coat and ears. Beagles are generally healthy, have a well-developed undercoat, and are frost-resistant.
Bernese Mountain Dog
Despite their impressive size (Sennenhunds grow up to 40-50 kg and up to 70 cm at the withers!), this dog breed is well suited for keeping in an apartment.
Sennenhund breeding began in the Alps, when the ancient Romans raised these dogs as shepherds. As is typical of these dogs, they have a wonderful disposition and are friendly with people (especially children) and other pets: dogs, cats, cattle, etc. Sennenhunds can be very affectionate, but don't beg for too much attention. They are easy to train and follow their owner's commands precisely.
They can be demanding in terms of grooming, as they have long fur that requires constant brushing. Otherwise, they are an ideal pet, fully meeting the needs of a large family.
These three dog breeds are the best choice for large families with children. All are energetic and sedate enough to avoid disrupting the peace of the home. Most importantly, they are genetically predisposed to excellent temperament, ensuring a trouble-free introduction to a new pet.
