Welsh Corgis are cheerful and very kind dogs, excellent companions, and children's best friends. These pets are distinguished by their small size, easy care, and high intelligence.
They are very compact.
There are two varieties of the breed: the Pembroke and the Cardigan. Both are fairly compact and can live in a typical city apartment. They stand no more than 30 cm at the withers and weigh no more than 14 kg. Under good conditions, they can live 13-15 years, with some individuals reaching 18 years.
This dog has an elongated body, short limbs, and a compact build. Its muzzle resembles a fox's, and its coat is silky and pleasant to the touch. Corgis are ideal for young families, couples with children, and people living in small apartments.
Very smart
Corgis are considered one of the most trainable and intelligent breeds. Most trainers report that they only need 2-4 repetitions of a command to learn it and begin to obey it.
Moreover, these dogs are very gentle and unobtrusive, perfectly sensitive to their owner's mood and not demanding attention when they are busy. In this case, the pet will patiently wait until their owner is free and able to give them attention. Corgis are also not prone to making much noise; they may mumble and growl, but they rarely bark.
They are true companions.
This breed was originally developed as a herding dog. Its primary purpose was to help humans tend large flocks of sheep. This explains their friendly and intelligent nature. In the modern world, corgis are popular as family pets, able to get along with almost anyone and becoming universally loved.
Main qualities of the breed:
- curiosity;
- lack of aggression;
- activity;
- love of games and entertainment;
- readiness to carry out any commands;
- devotion to the owner;
- cheerfulness;
- equilibrium;
- courage.
All this makes representatives of this breed ideal companions and man’s best friends.
They don't require any special care.
This breed is relatively low-maintenance and doesn't require any special care. These dogs don't require grooming, frequent bathing, or regular brushing. The only brushing they require is combing during shedding season, which occurs once every six months. A special brush is required for this.
Moreover, these dogs don't require special winter clothing. Their fur is perfectly suited to cold climates, and your pet won't freeze.
The only thing required is regular walks, as these pets require exercise and active play. Representatives of this breed also require at least 5 km of jogging daily.
It's worth noting that corgis are big eaters, so don't overfeed them. Otherwise, they'll quickly gain weight, which can negatively impact their health.
They are indifferent to your slippers
Unlike other pets, Welsh Corgis are almost always indifferent to shoes and other household items. They won't damage furniture, slippers, curtains, or carpets.
A few rubber toys are enough for them to be happy. These dogs can be safely left home alone without fear of damage to their home. This is due to their even-tempered nature and instinctive understanding of situations. Moreover, these traits are evident in corgis even in puppyhood.
The Welsh Corgi breed is suitable for almost everyone, from the elderly to families with children, middle-aged singles, and so on. Its friendliness and unpretentiousness make it an almost ideal dog for city dwellers.
