Russia is one of those countries where cats are loved by almost everyone. While some don't see these animals as pets, they certainly look with affection at funny and touching photos. However, there are countries where aversion to cats is part of the national identity.
Indonesia
In Indonesia, the majority of the population is Muslim, and therefore should revere cats. After all, the Prophet Muhammad himself was a vocal supporter, and according to legend, cats even slept on his robe. However, this is not true. Indonesian cats are very independent and live outdoors. Locals simply don't understand why they need to be cared for. They believe cats are perfectly capable of finding their own food.
Norway
In the Norwegian town of Longyearbyen, there is a law prohibiting the keeping of cats. This is due to the town's geographical location and climate.
Longyearbyen is located on the polar archipelago of Svalbard, making it bitterly cold year-round. Cats that venture outdoors can die from hypothermia, and their carcasses can later become a source of infectious diseases for humans.
Vietnam
This country tops the list of countries whose citizens dislike cats. This dislike stems from the Vietnamese's sincere belief that felines are the source of poverty. While the Vietnamese readily accept mice and rats, they are wary of the presence of a cat.
Australia
Environmentalists in the country are convinced that cats threaten the balance of nature. Australian authorities have decided to cull 2 million feral cats in 2020, although various estimates place their total population on the continent at between 2 and 6 million.
A similar situation is observed in neighboring New Zealand, where an environmentalist has proposed a vision of the future in which cats have no place in the new ideal world.
Ireland
Ireland is one of the most prosperous European countries. Its residents don't so much dislike cats as prefer dogs—this is a historical fact. The true reason for this is unknown. It's quite possible this dislike stems from the numerous superstitions that cats bring only bad luck into the home.
