Cats are among the most curious animals. This trait manifests itself in various ways, and computer work is also a source of attraction for them. Pets are simply a nuisance. But why are they interested in this device?
Getting your attention
The first reason is fairly obvious: the cat is trying to get attention. Your furry friend may be bothering you this way because of a lack of food or water. Checking the bowls doesn't take much time, but it can help solve the problem.
Some pets are also known for their extreme cleanliness. They dislike dirty bowls and prefer clean litter boxes. If your cat isn't eating, make sure its litter is in good condition. It's possible that this is a distraction. Cats have their own daily routine, so the litter box can be a serious source of attention.
Heat from the device
A cat's body temperature is very different from a human's. It's much higher, and its thick fur is hardly equivalent to a warm coat. The situation is as follows: a kitten initially gravitates toward its mother's warmth, as it simply cannot survive without her. And this situation doesn't change with age. The animal easily reacts to the slightest change in weather and begins to seek out a warm spot. This is how a cat is able to regulate temperature fluctuations.
The cat can be found nearby:
- with battery;
- with heater;
- with TV;
- with a computer.
In other words, a laptop or desktop computer is simply an additional source of heat for a cat. The monitor emits heat from the sides and back, which is what attracts a cat. Therefore, it may lie down next to it rather than on the device itself. It's worth paying attention to the weather and your cat's behavior. Perhaps your four-legged friend needs more warmth and is therefore coming to the screen. It's possible that the next moment, it might even move onto your owner's lap.
However, frequently sleeping near a desktop computer or laptop is of questionable benefit in maintaining body temperature. The device can significantly dry out the air. The casing heats up, resulting in the release of various harmful substances.
Fun from changing pictures on the screen and moving the cursor
A cat will always find something to do. Around the house, she can play with any object she finds interesting. A computer is just such a thing!
One of the main forms of entertainment in front of a computer screen is viewing images. A cat's eyes capture a succession of changing images at a rate of 40 frames per second. Humans experience a lower rate—only 24 frames per second. As a result, the image appears to the cat in a different form as it's viewed.
The attraction to the cursor can be explained by the fact that cats are natural-born hunters. This fact has long been known: cats were once bred to catch mice. The cursor represents valuable "prey" because of its movement across the screen. The animal's gaze fixates on an object it finds curious and takes aim. Moreover, the white arrow reminds the cat of a fly. Sometimes the cursor moves across the screen quite quickly, which further triggers its hunting instincts, and the cat makes more and more attacks on the monitor. The goal is the same: catching prey.
Why is a cat attracted to a keyboard?
If you observe an animal for a while, you'll discover many amusing things. For example, a cat finds a plastic bag and starts touching it with its paw. What happens? The plastic returns to its original state. This intrigues the pet even more, and it begins to paw the bag harder. It turns out that cats love surfaces that spring back softly when they press them. A keyboard is just such a source of entertainment. The keys are soft and pliable, just right for a four-legged friend. The cat places its paw on the key, lifts it, and suddenly the same thing happens as when playing with a plastic bag.
If the owner enjoys typing quickly on a keyboard, the cat will also find the finger movements amusing. It may attack not only the hands but also the keys themselves. After all, a person is pressing keys, so that must be cool!
Don't chase your pet away every time they come to the computer. It's better to play with them before work or spend some time with them afterward. The main thing is to give your cat love. Otherwise, why did you get one in the first place?
